jgbrowning, Rystil Arden, and Hypersmurf talk amongst themselves

just to raise a point about all the "begging the question" finger pointing in this thread: There are many forms of "begging the question" and most of them are harmless. All deductive arguments are "begging the question". P -> Q P --- Q You are asserting the conclusion in the premisses (by...

    Modified Blindsight

I'm tempted to say this is an unwise ruling for a couple reasons, but it depends on how stuff gets defined. Thunderstone, 30g - when thrown creates a deafening sound, blahblah. On top of any normal effects, these little gems would nail the blindsense/blindsight critters with whatever penality...

I ran my first Castles & Crusades adventure

as a brief aside if no one minds - you're supposed to expand the EXP charts to level 20, right? I couldn't find it say anything one way or the other, but the spell chart goes to lv19 or 20, and I might have just missed it. EDIT: as a related bit: Turanil- did any of your one shot play testers...

Need some advice on player politics

my initial response from the origonal post is that the one guy is jealous. Could be jealous b/c he wanted the guy/girl in the relationship. Could be jealous that he is single and wishes he wasn't. Could be jealous that his characters never have anyone special, w/e. It's not like they have...

    Ratio of Spending to Gaming

around $100 for the past 6 months unless I'm forgetting something. 4 or 5 sessions with another one each week for the next 5 weeks or so (finally got a campaign off the ground :D, but it's near finals :( ) Hopefully though said campaign (setting) will see the light of day again in another...

Grim Tales + BESM = Vampire Hunter D?

I'm acctually courious if you'd need to pull anything at all out of BESM to tell the truth. As I recall Vamp Hunter D it's basically high-tech fantasy with very little magic and lots of ravenloft-monsters + demons. I might just use GT maybe with some extra material for cybernetics/robots/etc...

    Romance? Err... ok?

in my current campaign 2 of 3 players started with the goal of finding a wife to help rebuild their clan. Anyway, I've basically glossed over the romance: PC: "I invite the girl to go for a walk around the town tonight" DM: "She accepts your invitation, the two of you meander around for hours...

Aitan, new race; looking for advice

I would: - drop the +2 to hit with staff or staff-like weapons. - apply the +2 fort saves also to resisting enviromental effects (temperature and the like) The staff ability seems too powerful to me it is in essence giving Weapon Focus and Improved Weapon Focus to the race not just for one...

    Creating languages

my initial reaction is that the skill points at the high levels of languages seem a bit extreme. I'll see if I can dig up any info on created languages that might be relavent (my fiancee is finishing her masters in linguistics and I know I've spoken with her before about created languages at...

    How to houserule/tweak Grim-n-Gritty Revised?

while I agree that changing # of Pips is not ideal I am left with the problem of how to modify the following Talent: At this point I'm contemplating scrapping the ability and adding something else. Maybe a small amount of Fast Healing that can heal upwards of ((Tough Level)/2) Pips/day @ a...

    How to houserule/tweak Grim-n-Gritty Revised?

Yeah, you've pretty well summed up one side of my mental debate about how to deal with the abilities. Suppose I could whip something up and see how it runs out in play then tweak as necessary.

    How to houserule/tweak Grim-n-Gritty Revised?

I'm starting up a campaign within the next week or two, norse myth type setting, no magic, etc, etc. In the interest of having plenty of (balanced ans non-magical) character concepts aviable I'm going to use the d20 modern base classes (tweaked for fantasy setting) and homegrown advanced...

    Nova Wars Baby!

as others have said the info is great, it makes me want to start up a starship troopers-esk game instead of the old norse one I'm working on ;) Thanks for the material :)

Advice on an undead pc race...sorta.

if they are half-undead and half-alive then perhaps Cure and Cause Wound spells just don't work... say they are hit with an 8 point Cure Light Wounds - 4 points healed, 4 points damage = total change 0 if they need to be able to be healed or injured by those spells for some reason then this is...

Lets determine together what the soul is, and what are its game mechanics

on second thought a version of this conception seems to be supported by the astral plane and associated psionic abilities, my issue however still comes back to the way reincarnation is dealt with. When a character is reincarnated into the form of say, a badger, if I recall correctly the...

Lets determine together what the soul is, and what are its game mechanics

completely ignoring thousands of years of RL thought about the soul seems a bit silly if you want to construct a system of dealing with it, as an added note discussions of the soul aren't inherently religious as some people have assumed :p D&D conception of body and soul seems closest to a...

    Critical hits on undead?

something similar to this (I may have read this here acctually a while ago) is that if you want undead to be tougher / more scary / more horror movie give them insane damage resistance and use called shots to hit specific areas where they are weak. Either that or it could be like Skeleton: DR...

    Alignment issues

example 1: - you are in a room with someone who can set off a bomb and kill thousands of people. - you have a gun, the other person has a trigger for the bomb. do you... 1) kill the bomb person saving thousands of lives? 2) not kill the bomb person and thousands die? but because you didn't kill...
