New Monsters damage et al driving me insane.

I forgot that I also bumped it down to 11 damage for being an attack that has more than one target (expected damage lvl+4 more or less). The extra 25% for being an encounter power brings this to 14 damage and the 4d4+4. Hmm. It seems that the Monster Builder program is bad at math. When I used...

New Monsters damage et al driving me insane.

I'm a fellow anal retentive DM who had trouble challenging my players. But unlike you I don't find a chore to implement the errata changes. I'll do the same monsters you did, time it and explain what I did and why. Bounty Hunter Snaremaster Level 7 Artillery Small natural humanoid XP 300 HP...

Here is a companion version. I combined his striker feature with the tattoos. Elf Level 10 Medium natural humanoid HP 70; Bloodied 35; Surges 7; Surge Value 17 AC 25; Fortitude 21; Reflex 25; Will 23 Speed 7 Initiative +9 Perception +12 Low-Light Vision Traits Group Awareness • Aura 5...

Character Builder Challenge! Build me a Ranger - in NPC, Companion, and PC format

Here is a pretty basic Elf ranger full PC build. It is not an optimized character. For the energy effects he has gloves and bracers that can be refluffed as tatoos. They both allow daily energy effects that are added to his weapon damage. He also has a lightning longbow that allows him to...

Other than Close Bursts, is there an upside to Size Large?

I dont recall any formal rules in any edition of D&D that allowed larger creatures to do that. And if you wanted to you use p42 for that kind of action. If I wanted to make fights with larger monsters more dangerous in general I would pick monsters +3-5 levels above the characters.

    ENworld unstable?

Does anyone else experience problems with Enworld? For the last week or so the site seems to come and go for me. Even when I have acces it is very slow.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Ideas for a 3.5->4e conversion of a Fighter PC

Here is a pretty straightforward fighter build that might serve as inspiration. It is definately not an optimized build. The paragon path allows charging with your at-will powers, the horned helmet adds +1d6 damage to charge attacks and the powerful charge + fast runner feats adds +2 to damage...

Yeah, I found it there as well. But thanks anyway.

Help me find a magic item

I'm looking for a magic item that either got previewed for adventurers vault or was part of a dragon article. It think it was an orb-type item. It had the power to transport all creatures within a certain range into some sort of microplane with predetermined terrain features. I have tried...

    The Sandbox And The Grind

IMO the grind is a perk in a Sandbox style game. Encountering a vastly level-inappropriate dragon in 3ed would likely result in a TPK in 1-2 rounds. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it leaves the players little time to realise their predicament and react to it. The same type of encounter in...

So, about defenses aka. PHB2 defenses feats

Honestly I'm confused now. Isn't it your argument that NAD trail behind as levels fly by and that at high (epic) levels some attacks will almost always hit your weakest NAD? All I'm saying is that your theory of faulty math isn't the only one. It could be that the game is designed with...

So, about defenses aka. PHB2 defenses feats

IMO this boils down to the point that the game may well be designed to make high level monsters hit much more often than low level monsters. Assuming they face level appropiate PC's. The likely explanation is that PC's are better suited to dealing with getting hit and hurt a LOT at higher...

    Why the World Exists

Yes I do. I just think the numbers of people doing entirely tailored games AND the number of people doing only non-tailored games are both small enough to make the discussion pointless. And can you provide me the numbers for the number of DM's doing it either entirely the tailored or...

    Why the World Exists

The point I'm trying to make is that I personally don't know or have participated in any roleplaying game that adheres to either of those categories. And my claim is that the vast majority of other roleplayers haven't either. Most actual games are a blend of the two, where characters usually...

    Why the World Exists

No, but because you seemingly harbor the notion that players will never run into inappropiate encounters in a tailored campaign. I can of course only speak of my own games, as player and DM, and they fall more into the tailored category. But lets say the players decide to aggravate/attack...

    Why the World Exists

I have to say that to me the tone of your posts suggests that he is not the only one who falls into this trap. In my games characters rarely die and generally face encounters they will be able to defeat. For some time I have felt that they got through fights pretty easily and without taking...

I have a problem with monks and halflings

To me it is a build in assumption that haflings must have a proportionally much higher strength to weight ratio. Otherwise they wouldn't even be able to fight medium opponents. It's not like any 3-5 year old human child could defeat a normal healthy man or woman in a fight. So even though the...

Lazybones's Keep on the Shadowfell/Thunderspire Labyrinth

Hmm. The best option is likely a 1 month membership of Digital Insider to download the Character Builder (Which may be very helpfull for keeping track of the characters in general). As I understand it will keep working even when yor subscription ends, it just won't be updated. As a bonus you...

Lazybones's Keep on the Shadowfell/Thunderspire Labyrinth

And I see that, as usual, you quickly did away with all the spellcasters on the PC side ;) Anyhow with the release of Martial Power it is pretty easy to build two-weapon wielding fighters (and they are plenty good too!). Good news for Mara I'll say. Thank you for the story so far and please...
