D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] A few questions about Spells and Magic items for the new edition.

According to The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, a phylactery is... http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=Phylactery 1. Judaism. Either of two small leather boxes, each containing strips of parchment inscribed with quotations from the Hebrew...

    Epic Spells....huhwhat????

Add my 100% as well, Souljourner. :D After reading the examples in which the caster pays XP and *HP* for every casting of the spell he created, I decided my Epic Level Handbook would serve me just as well if that chapter fell out. Here are the things I pictured happening to me... Bad...

    Value of a Spell book?

Might wanna check the math on that system. Low level spells would be underpriced and high level spells would be overpriced. Remember, scrolls cost what they do because they are spell *completion* items. A spellbook is a spell *preparation* item. It costs a wiz [3.0; not sure about 3.5] 100...

    Any Free d20 Modern Adv?

Argh! Sorry, the link got screwed up. It should have been http://www.shadow-warriors.co.uk/Scenarios.htm

    Any Free d20 Modern Adv?

Here's a great one I used in my own (sci-fi/horror) d20 Modern campaign: Epic, by Ben Counter, at http://www.shadow-warriors.co.uk/Scenarios.htm. It is designed for Call of Cthulu, but easily converts to d20 Modern. One piece of advice, though - plan to spend a little time re-inking the maps.

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] The New Charge *sigh*

Re: Re: [3.5] The New Charge *sigh* Dodge, parry, thrust - man, this orc is a better fighter than most. Oh gods, that maniac barbarian is behind me. Is he gonna go nuts *again*, charging in screaming, blazing away with his axe? Parry - whew, close one, why won't this orc just die? Oh-oh...

    A quick question about horses.

Forgive me if this is way off - I have yet to play a Druid in 3E. That being said, can't you train Animal Followers with a certain number of Tricks? I thought I saw Fight With Rider listed as a Trick either in the DMG or MotW. If not, maybe you can work with your DM to write up such a Trick...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5 Quick Question] Brilliant energy?

Re: Re: Re: Re: [3.5 Quick Question] Brilliant energy? Agreed, but I don't see that as an issue. Compare this: 1 action to power up your 1d6 variable element effect vs. 1 action to select which of your four 1d6 elemental effects to activate. Either way, you have 1d6 from your choice of...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5 Quick Question] Brilliant energy?

Re: Re: [3.5 Quick Question] Brilliant energy? I'd have to agree. For the same price, you could get multiple elements placed on the same weapon. Why make a weapon that does +1d6 variable element damage when you could do 4d6 worth of various elements at the same cost?

Help with a max Initiative Build

Actually, you can also qualify for the feat if you take a couple ranks in KS-Local with the appropriate region. I saw another weapon that gave a bonus to Initiative. The nice thing is, you only have to have the weapon on your person to get the bonus. I'm pretty sure it was in the Arms and...

    Permanent Effect Magic Items

The example you gave, a ring of Mage Armor, should be calculated as an item that grants +4 Armor bonus to AC rather than an effect that grants 24x7 use of the Mage Armor spell. The 3.0 calculation of this is pretty straightforward, but I'm not sure if it has changed for 3.5.

    Watcha readin for?

Offhand, it seems like a circumstance bonus should apply to the Knowledge check, according to the time spent researching and the quality/quantity of information available in the library in question. If it helps, I believe there are 3rd party rules for handling this in the Quintessential Wizard.

    Touch of Idiocy.. Typo?

Since it affects 3 attributes simultaneously (at least, according to the posts I've seen above), it is even *more* deadly to those who have more than 1 spellcasting class. Wanna see a Mystic Theurge cry? Take away his high level spells (and some bonus spells) from both classes, and reduce...

    Feats for Commoners?

It sucks enough just being a commoner...why penalize them further? :D

    Feats for Commoners?

AFAIK, yes. They should have 1 for being Character level 1 and one for being human. The fact that their level is in Commoner shouldn't make a difference.

    Touch of Idiocy.. Typo?

1d6 could be enough to render a spellcaster impotent. Take the example of a sorcerer with 16 Cha. He gets hit with this spell and takes 5 points to Cha. Suddenly he has an 11 Cha, and can only cast cantrips and level 1 spells! At least the sorcerer could still use his higher level slots to...

Dungeon vs. Polyhedron - Death Match

When they were separate magazines, I let my subscriptions lapse. I started picking up Dungeon again, and considered letting is lapse...then they started packaging Dungeon with Poly. I liked the mix. I renewed, and have continued to do so since. When I receive a new issue, I always check...

Help a guy out - Magic to find stolen objects

Locate Object would certainly be useful, but has limited range. I wonder...they may be able to Scry with the object as the target. I'm thinking this tactic would work on objects & locations, not just creatures, but don't have the books handy to double-check. An array of other Divination...

Surprise when the bad guys are faking it

If you actually tell the PCs there are corpses laying around the room and they don't seem concerned (e.g., state any kind of precaution or cautionary activity), your method sounds reasonable. If he has a reach weapon, he could do so before the skeleton's triggering instructions kick in...

    Will save redundant?

Re: Re: Will save redundant? Takyris, I like the intent of your message. However, I just *had* to point out the irony/humor in this particular example. Consider for a moment that Will would be the weak save for classes like the Soldier and Gunslinger. Or picture the Tough hero screaming like...
