OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

I don't see what this has to do with my point, which is that Belkar is a favorite of Rich's and isn't going anywhere. Rich obviously chose to write him killing those people (and yes, in "On the Origin of PCs" he is referred to as having knifed 15 unarmed people in a bar fight, including the...

OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

This, right here, is the problem Rich faces: for every person who will never be happy until Belkar gets treated like they think an evil character should be legitimately treated, there is one who thinks Belkar is the best thing about OOTS and the comic would lose all entertainment value if he...

OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

I don't think he ever said that. He said in the last book that he was looking at 6 or 7 books total, depending on how long things ran. Each book is like 200 strips, so that's 1200-1400 strips total.

OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

The thing is, Rich doesn't have an injury, he has a chronic health problem. The rate of posting is not likely to EVER improve permanently, just get better for a while before getting worse again. So if the pace of updates is really the crux of the problem, you would probably be better off...

OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

100 comics is not that much. 100 comics is like half a book, and a book is like a season of TV. You're willing to sit through two seasons of Lost that you didn't like, and then it got better. Why assume that OOTS can't get to a place more to your liking after only half a season?

OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

Well, what I want is for Rich to write whatever story he feels like writing, since I am enjoying it and so far it has always turned out being better in the end than whatever I thought might happen...and if he has to jettison you as a reader in order to do so, then I'm cool with that. I trust...

OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

I think the lack of hope for Vaarsuvius is very much The Point of his/her portion of the story right now. His/her repeated failures are likely to drive him/her insane in some way, with likely spectacular consequences. You can't tell the story of someone going mad with frustration if they have a...

OotS #570 Is Up, Including Critical Interpretations of Burlew's Style & OotS Content

I agree. As long as the strips are funny and entertaining, I say, let the story go where Rich wants it to. I guarantee it will end up a better story at the end if he writes what he has in mind instead of rushing it to please some fans.

    Oots #569

Or, you're one of the many people who have longed for Belkar to be visibly punished in a way that even he can grasp, which I suspect is an equally-large demographic.

    OoTS 567 Up!

Well, there's pointless in the sense of not accomplishing the goal the characters intended, and there's pointless in the sense of not having any purpose in the story. I think they're definitely not going to accomplish the goal they went to the tower for, but there's a lot of potential for...

    4.5E: When?

They'll never use the ".5" terminology again, it was too universally criticized. They will probably have re-organized/expanded core rulebooks in 2-3 years, but without the level of changes we saw in 3.5, followed by 5E in 2013-2014.

For real this time: What is your stance on 4e

Done by default, but note that it is difficult to vote against a product with my dollars. It's not like an election, where I can vote for the other guy. Without my feedback, WOTC would never know if I looked at 4E and didn't like what I saw, or I just didn't exist as a customer in the first...

    OotS #564 is up

Consult Your Doctor Before Reading This Comic The connection with the phrase "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" comes in this strip, where the Oracle's answer to her is a paraphrased version of the same idea, although in that case, it is referring to how Haley eventually got her voice back...

    4E is NOT a V3.75!

Knowing something unpleasant for a long time does not make it inherently more acceptable when it happens. One can have known that 4.0 was not going to be an updated 3.5 for the last year and still not be pleased by it. If I tell everyone that on October 23, 2011, someone is going to drive a...

New OOTS #560 - Meanwhile, His Teammate was in Rhodes

And I don't think anyone is expecting you to. Inside jokes and obscure references have always been a part of OOTS--remember Fruit Pie the Sorcerer? As you say, many times, you find strips funny that others don't; this time, you were on the other end. I think it's silly to assume that every...

New OOTS #560 - Meanwhile, His Teammate was in Rhodes

It's Odysseus and his men, encountering the cyclops and his sheep. Or, in this case, Cyclops (of the X-Men) and his sheep. The title is a reference to Cyclops' teammate, Colossus.

    4E and RPG Theory (GNS)

"RPG Theory" does not equal "G/N/S Theory". One can discuss the theories behind RPGs without subscribing to the G/N/S Theory as particularly valid or useful. Some, such as myself, may have come to this thread not knowing what theory of RPGs you wished to discuss. It's not like it's universally...
