It's been (too many) years since I read them, but there are some dungeon-like elements in the Black Company series. (I'm especially thinking of - SPOILERS! - where Croaker and the Lady are frozen in status and buried deep underground, and the Company tries to find them.)

I think this is a brilliant move, Not only does it start the 5e push off on a good foot, but it's for a great cause. I'm torn between buying copies for myself, and doing without so that others who never played 1e can try it out for themselves.

I don't think it's one of the "best" episodes, but I think it's a good episode that gives a newcomer a very good sense of who the Doctor is, what he does, and how he does it. Agreed.

I'll echo those who recommend starting with Eccleston's run in 2005. I watched DW back in the 80s, but didn't start watching the new stuff until about 2 years ago; now I have my wife watching them, and it's a thrill that she's enjoying them. :) I think all the episodes are worth watching at...

This reminds me of the "let's talk about rape in my campaign" thread from this past summer. I'm giving us all a Christmas gift and closing this now while it's still cordial and before it goes haywire.
