    D&D 5E Death PTSD

I understand wanting some sort of after effect from death, but that should come from the player's imagination rather some arbitrary roll. But adventurer's are hardened. If they were going to suffer from PTSD, it would be more likely to come from battle with aberrations and fiends, rather than a...

D&D 5E Mystic, Psionic Mastery, and 11th level and up

I looked for Crawford's clatification, but the only reference to Psionic Mastery I could find is that it costs an action to activate these special points. Is there another out there that I've missed? If it wasn't meant to allow you to activate two powers at once, why would there even be a...

D&D 5E Mystic, Psionic Mastery, and 11th level and up

In playtesting, I have enjoyed having the ability to activate two powers at once, even without concentration. Once I had a spell Caster on me with Spirit Guardians, and I used two powers, one to knock him back and the other to attempt to disrupt his concentration. Thankfully, he failed all three...

    D&D 5E D&D as a Teaching Tool

That is amazing. I really love that you were able to integrate so many ideas into your lessons and that they were so well received. While not in the same scope, I've been using a slimmed down version of D&D for my kindergartner to help her strengthen her math (addition and subtraction) and...

    Surprise round question

When I saw the title of the thread, "Surprise Round Question," I thought this was a game show thread with a mysterious prize inside. Turns out, I'm surprised.

Unearthed Arcana 5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana

I've been doing careful reading and a lot of building and am very pleased with the results. I'll be playtesting this as well, so I am excited to see how it functions in actual play.

    D&D 5E Your favorite PC of all-time...

Kanibink the Rainbow Mage - a kobold wizard who would only cast spells that had colorful effects. He spent all his free time and gold developing chromatic, prismatic, and rainbow spells. He was quick thinking, cowardly, and sweet. He protected his friends as much as possible, but was terrified...

D&D 5E Poll: When do you typically retire your PCs?

When I feel the character is at a point in their career that retirement would be a logical step... Or when the campaign dies.

    D&D 5E Realigning a magic item

To me, it would have to be much more involved than just a therapy session or two for the sword. Rather than leaving it to a die roll, I would use it as an opportunity to begin a quest to obtain something for a ritual to foster the change in alignment. Use it to engage the players rather than...

D&D 5E Creating my first Warlock

I use neither Hex nor Eldritch Blast. When making Warlocks, I guess I just feel like EB/Hex is a crutch; that is the Warlock Class can be so much more than a one trick pony. That is, of course, only my opinion. I am privledged to have a group where this sort of "non-optimisation" is acceptable...

    D&D 5E Advanced 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons!

Saying you don't want to homebrew because it's hard is not a defensible position. But do you want to know what can be done? Making a post in one of the communities about what you want to put in your game and that you are unsure how to approach it. 9 times out of 10, you'll get a theorycrafter...

D&D 5E Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

I guess the point is that I don't recognize the bad game design. Does it have everything I would like in a game? No. Does it have things that I wish were not part of the game? Yes. But that doesn't mean it's bad game design, only that individuals have a great varying degree on their preferences...

D&D 5E Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

I don't recall ever using the term "uptight" at any point, nor was I criticizing other ways to play the game. I'm well aware that the way my group plays is not for everyone. The point, which I guess you missed while frantically typing this defensive screed, was that it's okay to just have fun...

D&D 5E House rule: Sorcerer casting change

Fortunately, there is already a way to deal with material components on page 203 of the Player's Handbook; replacing a material component with a spellcasting focus unless the component has a cost, or is consumed during the casting. As a DM, I would have no problem with saying the Sorcerer's...

    D&D 5E D&D 5.5e; Your wish for 5.5e update.

Personally, I don't know that there is anything I'd want to change. We've already made those changes at our table. The nice thing about 5e is that changes, like the ones you have listed, are easily managed with this edition. Implement them and see how they feel for you.
