D&D 5E Old settings coming back?

This entire thread has been verrry interesting.

One of the best parts of 5e thus far is that people are already homebrewing.

As someone who has no intention of fudging with 5e until it's "finished", I have a question for those enthusiastically coming up with their own 5e rules already. Two years is a long time. Will you drop everything you've grown used to playing when the "official" rules are published b/c it's what...

    Let's Forget the Forgotten Realms

Good post. Slightly off topic. It got me thinking. You don't need spend money on a generic book on how to design worlds when you got the published ones to use for examples. If that's not good enough, nonfiction books always worked for me when designing realisitc maps or nations. These days...

    Let's Forget the Forgotten Realms

Wow that was a totally unexpected yet timely post of support for Greyhawk. I'm 100% behind this suggestion. Talking about it here is fine, but we need to keep up the interest long term to get it done!

    Oerth Journal #26 is out!

I don't speak for the OJ definitively but I have a good feel for its staff. Ideally when I write articles for Greyhawk I try for editionless content. Of course you'll have a need for stats or module info eventually. OJ has been mainly defacto 3.x edition rules for some time now, which is at...

    Oerth Journal #26 is out!

Sorry folks but there has been a snafu with the editing and the staff of Oerth Journal has taken the download offline until it is spiffed up. The links will be active again soon. In the meantime, for those who already got a copy enjoy!

    I miss print magazines.

Greyhawkery: Good Bye Dragon and Dungeon? I don't know if this will make the OP feel better or worse, but here is a report on the latest editorial out of Wizards from Steve Winter concerning Dragon and Dungeon.

World of Greyhawk Folio - 30 years on

Eric, as a current "fixture" at Canonfire, I know of at least a couple maps of yours that are still accessable on CF, a Pomarj map .zip collection and the jpg of your Bandit Kingdom-Shield Lands region. I'm not 100% sure but I think some of your other larger zip file collections may have...

World of Greyhawk Folio - 30 years on

Good discussion, gang. How about the Darlene map's use of hexes for travel and distances? Antiquated or still superior utility for gaming purposes?

World of Greyhawk Folio - 30 years on

Great post Merric! I agree with nearly everything you bring up with one question to counter. Would the Darlene map also be considered amateurish in today's gaming culture of computer aided art or does it still hold up as the gold standard in mapping that is often imitated?

Do you ever cut and run?

I've had players/campaigns like that. And that is partly the reason why my players for D&D never run 99.9% of the time. They believe to the best of their gamerly knowledge and experience that they are supposed to win every battle or that there is a way to win every battle no matter how hopeless...

Players: it's your responsibility to carry a story.

Good topic. I agree with the OP and all those whose experience is that DMs are better players. This is not to say they have more fun, but we are more respectful of what the DM is trying to achieve. I know when I play whatever RPG that I never try to derail a plot but rather prefer the railroad...
