Is there any big benefit to pre-ordering? I'll probably pick up at least the PHB when it comes out, but I couldn't really find any reason to pre-order. It's not like the books will be hard to find.

Bellis is becoming an oddly likable protagonist, which is pretty shocking. It's also nice not to be reminded, every third or fourth paragraph, how filthy and disgusting New Crobuzon is. Having read Perdido Street, it's weird to see a sentimental take on NC.

Since Fox or whoever owns the rights to publish Firefly fiction has no interest in Brust's story...yeah, I guess it's fan fic. The fact that a phenomenal author like Stephen Brust could walk up to Fox with a completed manuscript and they apparently have no interest just boggles the mind...
