    Dear WotC: Be Blizzard

Blizzard also makes massive game system changes during the patch cycle as well as during the expansion cycle. If WotC did what Blizzard really does, people would be bitching endlessly about their core books being made obsolete because of massive systemic changes. I mean, look at the talent...

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

Isn't it hard to have a reasonable discussion when you call one side's argument or system of choice "nonsensical?" It immediately suggests to me that you don't think it's a discussion worth having when you show such an attitude.

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

Except then they said they were going to do this, there was such an outraged reaction that they were "dictating" to us the flavor of the game that they backed off of it. Gamers are like a group of finicky eaters. Some just don't like peas, and are upset when peas are on the plate. Some don't...

    Something Awful leak.

Agreed. Monsters and PCs using all the same rules sounds nice. But then I realize that while my players only have to deal with building and maintaining a single character using the complex character building system, I have to deal with dozens to hundreds, and if I'm going to spend that much...

    Something Awful leak.

It's the worst kind of pandering. It's semantics intended to appease a person who would reject something sight unseen because it comes from 4e. It has nothing to do with grids or miniatures or anything like that. It's the fact that they apparently took mechanics directly from 4e and rewrote them...

    Something Awful leak.

One of the problems I see as he describes the document is that this only true of pre-4e games, and anything 4e related is written to disassociate it with 4e. Now, it might not be accurate, and things from all editions were modified, but if it is true, and 4e stuff was rewritten to pretend it...

    Something Awful leak.

This has to be fake. It HAS to be. PLEASE BE FAKE. PLEASE. If this is real... aside from boneheaded design flubs like "Undead are immune to the iconic anti-undead power," the design philosophy behind it seems so regressive and anti-DM empowerment because it wants to hide functionality behind...

    Something Awful leak.

Pretty sure it's a joke in reference to class rarity (a meaningless distinction to appease people who complain that something they don't like shouldn't be common).

    Level Titles

This. I liked them when I was younger because there were less classes (and less to them) and it just felt cool to get a sort of title as you leveled. However, in a game that is starting with 15 core classes that will have varied levels of complexity and will have more in future supplements, I...

    Gunslinger in core?

This. If your campaign uses firearms, the existing classes should be able to handle them without scads of special rules/feats/whatever. I like the idea of a gunslinging ranger better than a dedicated gunslinger.

    D&D 3E/3.5 5E Eberron - should it be closer to 3.5E or 4E/

I think they should let Keith Baker decide, since it was his awesome brain that gave it to us in the first place.

D&D 4E My Least Favourite Thing About 4e is Forced Balance

Same here. When a campfire meets a flamethrower in battle, the flamethrower wins.

D&D 5E 5e Hybrid Races: Let's Make Them Actual Hybrids

Might not be so bad... On a serious note, I've always preferred a Tolkien approach. Elrond and Elros were both half-elves, but Elrond ended up elfy and Elros ended up Numenorean/human. In 4e, I would express it as something like a Background whose mechanical benefit is giving you the race...

    Let's Forget the Forgotten Realms

Buy? Doubtful. License, ala 3e Ravenloft with White Wolf? Much more likely on WotC's end. However, I doubt it would happen on Paizo's end because they are very invested in Golarion. Paizo is already set on a multi-year course by the success of Pathfinder, and I don't see 5e changing that, even...

    Mearls on The Core Game

They are flat out stating that you will be able to play at the same table with people who want to play an entirely different edition. I understand your skepticism, since I hold the same opinion of it truly being all things to all men, especially on the individual basis they are claiming.

    Artwork

Anyone else get a little miffed at the announcement that all the Forgotten Realms art is going to be outsourced to a Chinese company?

    If Hasbro Pulls the Plug....

Subsequent versions of the OGL, the 4e books (from 2008 to present) and the GSL make no mention of Hasbro, either. I fail to see how that proves or disproves whether Hasbro did or did not know about the license in a company they acquired a year before the license was enacted. That kind of thing...

    If Hasbro Pulls the Plug....

If it comes down to believing that a corporation (Hasbro) acquiring another one (Wizards) has information and legal power over said acquisition or believing one of xechnao's random conspiracy theories, I'll stick to the former. Mod Note: Don't make it personal. Address the logic of the post...

    If Hasbro Pulls the Plug....

As I recall, people didn't pay much attention to the Hasbro buyout until Peter Adkinson left in 2002.
