D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

Not nearly as much as quickened spells and other metamagic tricks, IMO.

D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

I guess you could package it as a fighter-exclusive ability by saying only Fighter's have the discipline, training and martial focus to do it effectively. I think your point has more to do with the fighter having unique 'stuff' that others don't get, rather than the idea of nonmagical resources.

D&D 5E Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

Is Magic losing money if someone else started producing copies of the Black Lotus? Does JK Rowling lose money if someone writes Harry Potter 10? They have the rights to sell, or not sell, the product they spent money developing. In America you can't profit off of someone else's intellectual...

D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

Burst of Stamina: spend a Hit Dice to make an extra melee attack. This power recharges when you take a short or long rest. Is it really that much worse than a Wizard who rests his brain for 8 hours to memorize some arcane formulas?

D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

I don't get it either. In boxing, MMA, or any sort of hand-to-hand combat, a fighter can choose to make an explosive burst of effort to beat his opponent. The tradeoff - he's tired after doing it.

D&D 5E Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

It should. Anyone who wants to keep playing it can. But from a business perspective, a competitor making money off the product you invested to develop runs counter to every principle of economics I've ever heard of. Nobody is forcing anyone to play anything. The question here is letting...

D&D 5E Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

So you want a new edition – but Next ain't it. I think you may be waiting a long time.

D&D 5E Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

I never knew much about the OGL, but it seemed to be a suicidal idea from an economics perspective. Essentially like handing over all your R&D over to your competitors and green-lighting them to make money off your products. How much money has Pathfinder made off WotC's investment in 3rd...

D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

I dont keep track of arrows. It was just an example of mundane-resource tracking. Also, past editions of D&D were brimming with magic items with charges.

D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

I've yet to have the fighter in my group become confused on whether or not he's rested since he last used Action Surge. It's really not that hard. Keeping track of how many arrows you've shot is harder.

D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

I rather liked the playtest rule that said you needed to take damage before you could enter a rage. But that no longer exists.

D&D 5E Can mundane classes have a resource which powers abilities?

Fighter's have recharge-on-rest (encounter powers) in Next. Barbarians have Rage. Monks have Ki. Rogues dont yet have encounter or daily resources, but they do have round by round resources. All are incredibly easy to track, grounded in verisimilitude, and add layers of depth and meaningful...

    D&D 5E Multiclassing discussion

Dipping 1 in Fighter means your wizard can dump Dex, and and use a shield, which is not only is about a 6 point jump in AC (huge in Next), it also frees up a high stat for Wisdom, Con or another ability score. So 1 level in fighter = +6 to AC and probably a 16 in another score. Way too good...

    D&D 5E Multiclassing discussion

And what about taking 1 more level in fighter to get action surge? So for sacrificing 2 caster levels you get heavy armor, all weapons, and the ability to cast 2 spells a round (as an encounter power). That's a bit of a no brainer I say.

D&D 5E What Would You Give Up For A Cheaper PHB?

Agreed. If they shortchange us on Wizard Schools and Domains that will be pretty lame.

    D&D 5E Multiclassing discussion

And for every Assassin who has a change of heart, theres a hundred Wizards who suddenly learn how to cast spells in full plate and wield a battle axe.

D&D 5E Are you happy with the Bard being a full spellcaster?

Don't worry, one of these days you'll get a poll to reflect badly on 5e. Hang in there.

D&D 5E What are people expecting to be in the DMG that is "needed to play the game"

You don't need the DMG to play the game. The most necessary DM content to play I guess would be magic items - and you can just make up your own.
