    Scrying the Dead

One of my PCs scryed on a missing adventuring buddy, and found that his soul was now a chit being traded for adult favors in layer 457 of the abyss. OfficeRonin

    Character archetypes

I'd keep it small, with 5 members: A defensive fighter, probably a polearm guy, who's easy going and everyone's friend. An attack warrior -- fighter/barbarian/paladin, or a mix. A heavy damage dealer who can take a lickin'. Warrior-priest Student of magic -- Wizard Face, from the A-team...

    Do you use minis?

I agree there should have been some other options. We use a few miniatures, counters, coins, etc. So, I put a "yes" vote in. The miniature for my PC is a 3/4" rubber duck. I've also used a cigarette butt, the suction cup dart from a toy gun, a broken rubber band, and cut-up post-it notes...

hy doesn't every magic item key to an alignment?

Eh... So what? So the caster who blew a feat to make items and wants to make himself the magic gizmo can make it a little cheaper for himself. 30% might be a little high, but I don't find the principle absurd. I'd top it out at 30% (alignment, race, class, etc.), but so what? I have more of...

    Slaad Farming

Why do you need to control them -- you're CN! Purchase a farm in enemy territory, pose as a farmer for a few weeks, and then leave, releasing your Slaad to do as they like! Instead of cows, I'd consider chickens -- cheaper, and has the value of an endless stream of "Crossing the Road" jokes...

    World's worst D&D soundtrack

Ah -- the delightful sounds of Min May, from the Robotech saga... (This one has been done in our group! "Bright light, stage fright; this is my big night; This is my chance to be a star!!!) Elevator Music? Especially if it's clarinets playing "Bodies" by the Sex Pistols. Finally, how about...

    Trolls

Because of regeneration, my trolls get into lots of fights, and are very likely to have character levels in fighting classes because of the extra xp granted by neing in all those fights. OfficeRonin

    Got it. Thanks all. OfficeRonin

    Touch AC question...

Wouldn't the dexterity bonus be limited by the armor even in a touch situation? No books handy, but doesn't MW chain have a max Dex of lower than 4? OfficeRonin

    Rolling all 18s

I was in a cheesey game where the DM permitted as many re-rolls as you wanted, all 4d6, drop the lowest. So, I set up my laptop to roll for me, and only display characters that were 18's down the line. They were in the middle of an adventure, so I sat down and decided what I wanted to play...

    Multi-classing the monk

We created "orders" for both paladins and monks. Each "order" can freely multiclass with one other class. It adds flavor to the different monks and paladins. OfficeRonin

    MW Weapons of odd materials...

I was thinking of having my PC craft an adamantite Masterwork sword -- what would the plusses be? A "normal", say, greatsword, could be made. Would it be +2 (large adamantite weapon)? Adding in masterwork, it becomes +3 to hit, +2 damage. Of course, these are the same type of bonuses...

    Magic Item Creation...

Sounds like someone is playing a fighter... I'd take the value of a will save bonus item, and cut it in half for this specific spell. A ring of counterspelling might also be a good item. OfficeRonin

    Armor Class Enhancements

A luckstone would be good for another +1. A dirty trick for two-weapon rogues is to get a dagger +5 defender for the off hand. That would be good for another 5. You have not mentioned any AC increasing feats, though... I might start pursuing other avenues of defense, such as blur...

    Material Components...do you use them?

As a player, I keep close tabs -- just for flavor and roleplaying. As a DM, I don't really keep tabs, just assuming that they make efforts to gather their stuff. I might even give a small xp bonus for good roleplaying if they grab an innocuous item that happens to be a component -- especially...

What Would You Like From the Mongoose?

Quint Gnome. Stop laughing, I'm serious! I always see them as being the party clowns, and would like to see a supplement that gives better ideas for RPing them... I'd say Quint Ranger and Quint Bard, but they are likely to be redone in the summer. Same for a new guide to pricing and making...

Are you an assassin? (character design question)

The big problem is that the assasin spends lots of time on his own, away from the group. Beyond that, I don't think much of the class -- poisons and Fortitude saves for death attack. Just the thing if you want to kill low CON wizards who somehow have lots of hps. It's kinda cool to have the...

    Creating an archer PC

Cast that 4th level Divine Somethin'-or-other, and you have fighter BAB. Plus, you're never in melee, so you can use your heals more effectively. OfficeRonin

    Magical Item..needs tweaking?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Magical Item..needs tweaking? I'd compare it pricewise to the scabbard of keen edges (which also gives a +1 enhancement). maybe tack on the extra 12K for the other enhancement. OfficeRonin

    Magic Items: Arming the armies

I'd go with MW weapons. You've already got a weaponsmith who spends all his time making weapons. Assuming he's competent, you could give him a +10 craft item, and he can make MW weapons all day -- for a mere 2000 gp! OfficeRonin
