Greedy player, what should we do?

As you say the vow of poverty will make no real difference. Every player wants gold and items (and xp) but clearly this guy is too keen on bean counting his gold for some reason. If the guy knows it's a problem then you can deal with it out of game. If he's not doing well enough to change then...

The Appraise skill - Do you use it?

In my group it's used quite a lot. I think our DM likes all merchants to be lawful-evil

    guys and girls

Item Drawback: 30–32 Character’s gender changes. If you've never played in a campaign with something like this. Talk to your DM. It's very entertaining when a character has to go through all the shock and is told by high level clerics there is no "cure" and that perhaps he/she can find a...

Sound Off: What is "Role-playing" anyway?

I couldn't agree more. For me the line between role and roll playing is: Roll playing Player: I bluff the guard into looking the other way Role Playing Player: I say 'Would you look at that! It's the dutchess riding nude!' while looking past the guards shoulder However the more you go into...

    Do your characters swear?

My group swears out of character far more than in character. I try and make my latest character, a half-orc, swear quite a lot. Nothing too modern though, just a lot of bloody and bastard references. I had one character I was quite fond of who once exclaimed "Where in the nine hells are we!?"...

    Does anyone still play 3.0e?

My group still plays 3E. There are some 3.5 rules we'd seriously consider addopting but too many that are a turn off too. Eventually we'll probably take on the 3.5 ranger and barbarian but so far we just havn't gotten around to it.

    Realism vs Simplicity in 3.5E

Ughhh.. Why are you going on with this again? As I stated before in 3E there is no such thing as a "Large Dagger". A greatsword is a greatsword is a greatsword. I've already explained this and stated you cannot get your wizard mysteriously wielding some massive weapon he insists is a dagger...

    Realism vs Simplicity in 3.5E

Not at all. I'm just using different names that appear to be confusing you. Your "ogre-sized dagger" is to me a shortsword. As I stick to 3E rules ( I don't even own a 3.5E book ) I don't recognised a shortsword as being any other size but "small" and thus a weapon even a halfing can use one...

    Realism vs Simplicity in 3.5E

In 3E rules I would say... Halfling: Hand Crossbow, Dagger, Dart, Light Mace, Sap, Shortbow and Short Sword Ogre: Light Crossbow, Heavy Crossbow, Short Sword, Light Mace, heavy mace, morningstar, quarterstaff, and rapier Titan: Heavy Crossbow, Short Sword, Light Mace, Heavy Mace, Morningstar...

Is Railroading ever a good tactic?

Railroading can be the only way to tell a grand tale of which the players will partake. It's fine but needs to be in moderation. Railroading is describing a crypt to the players, having them walk right on past it, and spending the next three sessions trying to convince them to go into it...

What's the longest running "inside joke" at your table?

Who goes there? Rodger! This came from a game where all the characters were sneaking around on the deck of a pirate ship in the dark until one player decided to walk. On a couple of pirates hearing him stomp across the deck they called out "Who goes there?" to which he lied "Rodger". Sadly he...

The 5+ Styles of DMing: Contrasted/Compared/Mocked

Every DM should take a level in newbie and a level in sadist. It keeps the players on their toes. When I DM I'm definetly planner more than winger. But mostly I just like to creat e the world the players are in, a few of the key allies and enemies and then just see how it all pans out. I might...
