    What Is A Superhero?

The first element was air. The second element was earth. The third element was water. The fourth element was fire. Those aren't unique. They only had one match and would have died as much without that as without Leeloo. Does that make that match The Fourth Element? My take away from the...

    What Is A Superhero?

The Joker is like Batman, at the questionable bottom edge of "super". But he definitely lives in a world with Superman, so Super Hero Genre. He seems to be able to pose a challenge for "real" superheroes beyond Batman so he qualifies as a super villain on merit, if not an explicit super...

    What Is A Superhero?

She was the pilot of the Mondochiwan vessel attacked by the Mangalors carrying the fake stone case. The "survivor" that was used to "print" Leeloo was the pilot's egg-armor gauntlet still clutching a control that looked like a throttle. We have no idea if she was unique or if all Mondochiwans...

    What Is A Superhero?

All Action Movies give the protagonist a degree of plot armor. An Action Hero is a Jonah, irrationally surviving irrational dangers. To me the main difference between Super Hero and Action Movie hero is that everyone agrees the Action Movie hero got lucky and by all rights should be dead...

    What Is A Superhero?

She's not human, she's a Mondochiwan soldier. We don't know how many Mondochiwans there were on the ship so we don't know if she is unique but we know Mondochiwans exist to communicate with the Earth Government, so she is not The Last of Her Kind. She only "survived" the attack by Mangalors...

    What Is A Superhero?

IMO the "superhero genre" involves individuals who have unique, usually personal, special abilities beyond the norm for the setting and they use those powers to protect "normals" from evil people with special abilities beyond the norm. I.e. Fifth Element is an action movie not a superhero...

TSR Example from the worst TSR adventure module(s) ever published

Perhaps that would help it. But probably not.

SF Adventures in the Solar System?

That's kind of Eclipse Phase. Short form of EP is that Earth got taken over by magic AI nanobots (Titans) who aren't far off from Earthdawn Horrors (the game is basically Earthdawn 2070). Humanity was on the edge of sci-fi "post scarcity" utopia. Nuclear fusion, nanotech "cornucopia" machines...

D&D (2024) "No magic items are necessary" vs Magic Items Awarded by Level

Attunement does a good job on constraining the most potent magic items. And we have a number of "on loan" items acquired from patrons, deities, fey nobles and a dragon. (The dragon had the best excuse for just loaning us weapons. "You're fighting evil in caves. I won't fit and I can't...

    D&D General Bastion Mapping Tools

You might want to look at one of the kojillion floor plan web sites on a junk email address and share the login with your group.

    D&D General Bastion Mapping Tools

I use worldographer/hexographer for mapping. I got it as part of a bundle a while back. Much lower bar to entry than CampaignCartographer, which seems to revel in having a totally unique paradigm (aka very unpleasant learning curve). I was able to build & furnish a manor pretty easily.

Binary Success vs Multiple Levels of Success

I liked Earthdawn because it has success levels, but it is also a dice pool system where your Step is also the likely outcome combined with exploding dice that can result in infinite values (with a 1/infinity chance of occurrence, which isn't quite zero..., but a 1/1000 chance on a d6 is like a...

GAMA's Communications Manager Declares Organization 'Broken'

At the point of messaging 1,700 member businesses, it is essentially a public post. There is no way that some of those members wouldn't forward/post the email on ENWorld or other game news sites. But then it would be hear-say and the story becomes "is it real"? This way it's an...

D&D (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

"I'm not blind, I can see my nose and hands just find. There's just an illusion of absolute blackness a foot away from me in all directions." "I lay down down for cover from snipers, no one knocked me prone, so no advantage on melee attacks" "I'm not poisoned, they injected venom/anesthesia."...

"I think Hydrogen is a rare element" and other science facts.

Yeah, science fiction has the issue of "science" right in the title. If you aren't a science-y person and you pose a science-y problem, be prepared for science-y people to mess you up. This is like running a social based game while a player is an actual diplomat. I can "scifi" that into...

GAMA's Communications Manager Declares Organization 'Broken'

Based on a history of GAMA dysfunction, Lowe's allegations are plausible. Which doesn't mean they are factual, just that this isn't completely out of the blue. I personally feel the CEO probably should have had a more "proactive" response. Its probably something they would have wanted their...

GAMA's Communications Manager Declares Organization 'Broken'

I haven't seen comms directors but in 2024 the GAMA creative director Grace Collins resigned. Which could be normal churn. https://icv2.com/articles/news/view/56540/grace-collins-resigns-gama-board 2022 GAMA board leadership cycled through 3 or 4 people, including Grace Collins (twice)...

GAMA's Communications Manager Declares Organization 'Broken'

To over simimplify, there is a "good" and a "bad" reason. The bad version is spite, plain and simple. There may be truth to the allegations, or it just wants to burn things down. The good version is a last "hail mary" attempt to affect a beneficial change on the way out the door. But from...

    How adversarial is your group?

We play pretty tactically, so some of these are just a play style. I mean, tactics are not adversarial. Occasionally in the heat of the moment we all make mistakes, sometimes against the players, others the GM but we generally figure out the "right" way of doing things and just say "whoopsie...
