Prisoner not allowed to play D&D

I think many posters have made compelling arguments that, while D&D is unlikely to promote or cover gang activity, in a prison environment the rules always need to err on the side of staff safety. It's a bit worrying, though, that so many people believe prison is a place of punishment, when the...

Pathfinder 1E Is PAIZO becoming the next Wizards?

A family-friendly zombie apocalypse game, perhaps?

    Question on fantasy races

I played human PCs exclusively for about fifteen years, and couldn't understand why someone would want to play a race they're not a member of. Then, for some reason, I got completely sick of playing humans and haven't run a human character since. For the sake of fun options alone, I think...

What do your parents (currently) think of D&D?

I'm the right-brainer in a left-brain family, so my parents don't really see what's fun about D&D, but they still bought me loads of books and accessories when I was young. RPing was also a big social activity for me as an adolescent, so that was more important to the olds than what the game...

    Yay Failing Book Stores?

I'd say "Yay! Failing Borders", considering the five-star fisting it's given indepedent bookshops, but the independents are suffering even worse, so it's a Pyrrhic sort of satisfaction.

Is there a collected Gygax Q&A?

Cheers for the tips. Looks like the threads are still the best version of themselves. As for Vagabundo's idea, I at its most basic, all it really needs is Pladoh's posts collected in one document, since he quotes the questions he's answering. I might cut and paste as I go and see if the...

Is there a collected Gygax Q&A?

I was meandering through the archives and noticed the "Q&A with Gary Gygax" series of threads. I didn't take much interest in them when they were current, but wouldn't mind reading them now. They're a bit messy, though, with lots of questions interspersed with occasional answers - which, of...

    Implicit in the Presentation

Ah. So after all that, your criticism of 4e is that you don't like spending money. Not very relevant to the game system itself. Not at all, in fact. I'm not missing anything. After calling everyone in the thread a "hater" for expressing even the smallest dissatisfaction with 4e, you didn't...

    Falling off the 4ed bandwagon

I've found the GW staff pretty obsequious on the couple of occasions I've visited one of their shops in the last few years, but I assumed that was just who they hired, rather than a policy. If the Magic players express an interest, are they invited to a game, or given a sales pitch for the books?

    Implicit in the Presentation

I agree. It's so immature of someone to wade into a thread and call people names because they're so emotionally invested in a game that they can't handle even the mildest disagreement. I don't think 4E can be divided from miniatures. They're as fundamental to the system as dice, but i'm still...

Then tell us which ones, and which ones you would add. Why are you so coy about backing up your statements?

    Falling off the 4ed bandwagon

Do you know if there's a subsidy or discount scheme from WotC for shops that run the 4e promo stuff? The spruiking sounds weird. Is it done by the store staff or does someone come in specifically for that?

    Implicit in the Presentation

Asking a forum poster to back up their own broad statement is hardly trolling. Upthread you said that there are valid criticisms of 4E, yet you've insisted that all the criticisms raised in this thread are invalid and the product of hate. This is your opportunity to open up a fresh avenue of...

What are your criticisms of 4E, Snoweel? If everyone's on the wrong track here, tell us what we can discuss without being haters.

    Implicit in the Presentation

Criticism isn't negative. It's constructive examination and provokes discussion. You said above that there are valid criticisms of 4E. Please tell us what you believe they are so we can discuss criticism that isn't "hating".

    Implicit in the Presentation

Which ones? The borderline edition war you're waging seems predicated on complete rejection of 4E criticism and branding critics "haters", no matter how mildly or fully they explain the bases for their criticism. I'm interested in hearing your opinion on the weaknesses of 4E. Regarding the...

    Gygax Statue Memorial Update

I really like it too. Does the memorial have a go-ahead from the local planning authority, or is it still a proposal?

    Falling off the 4ed bandwagon

I'm still curious about how many players "bandwaggoned" from M:tG to 4E. I'm not a Magic person, so I don't know to what extent 4E was promoted in that community as a natural transition from CCGs into RPGs.

Are the Retro Clones doing well?

Do you think there's greater curiosity about retro-clones than there was, say, 12 months ago? Online and pbp games are a good way for people to have a slow-boil experiment with systems they can't make time for IRL, but I wonder if it translates to actual tabletop games.

Was AD&D1 designed for game balance?

For that to work as an anology, the precursors of NFL would have had to spring into existence in sedentary societies that had no history of running, which is of course impossible. The point is that it's inaccurate to portray games as a technology that gets objectively better with time. Newer...
