    Talent Trees - Your Thoughts?

"Talent Trees" don't exist. They're just visual layouts for feats/whatever with stringent prerequisites. /thread

D&D 5E What 5th edition needs to achieve IMO

It would be awesome if we just tossed all the grid-like ridiculousness of 4E forever. No power source. Why are there so many different sources for magic? Shadow, primal, psion, arcane, divine... gimme a break. Likewise, no roles. If the fighter wants to pick up some Lockpicking, what's stopping...

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

Looking forward to it, ol' pal. Maybe by... December we'll see the first PDF sales? I kid! I kid! (but... y'know... seriously...)

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

I'm good, thanks for asking. Yourself? Yeah, I have to give ya :):):):), man. Most of the people who post here are bordering on sycophancy, so you need the occasional jab in the ribs. It's 2011; 4th Ed came out in '08. I don't even play tabletop RPGs anymore, the wait for good 4E material has...

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

Nice to see nothing's changed around here. You put drying paint and growing grass all to shame. By the time you're finished with this book, the universe will have lapped itself and we'll all be throwing bone dice in a cave in Lascaux... and you'll still have editing errors.

I hope only to inspire and expedite. Happy Christmas!

The Immortal's Handbook: Gods & Monsters (unfinished)

This is the root of your disgraceful production speed - you write everything in a spiral notebook and not into a computer (where it matters). Then you procrastinate on copying those notes to a computer (again, where it needs to be) and wham: an entire edition slips by and we're still wondering...

    5e what would you do?

Well, Canor Morum, you can say whatever comes to your mind, but allow me to retort: Sure, 4E is fine as is, but you've completely missed the point. The thrust of the thread is what you'd like to see/do in a 5th Edition, not whether or not there is any call for it. As for your glob of text...

    5e what would you do?

5th Edition, eh? Let me get mine in before this thing goes 404... First off, "epic" shouldn't be "core". Epic should be epic; i.e. it should be outside the bounds of normal play. 4E tried to give us all warm fuzzies by making epic "core" and in the end it only managed to make epic "mundane"...

This thread instantly fell to armchair katana and medieval weapons experts. Faaaaaaaaaail.

    So what happens after 4E?

5E will be something that moves away from the modular design of 4E. Expect 5E to be the product of a company that moves in to take the torch from WotC when it decides to sell the label when they can't make it work for them. Paizo, for instance, might step up to the plate and buy off the "D&D"...

    Dancey v. Mearls?

I can't help you, then. :) I didn't say I knew who was pushing the transition, just that it happened, and it happened after TSR sold the farm to WotC. Take from that what you will. Frankly, I'm not real clear why you were so detailed in your (I guess) counter to my post. What was it you were...

    Dancey v. Mearls?

Mearls' saying things like "Classic classes and the classic races", to me, is a further step away from this elusive and pervasive "core of D&D" that Essentials is sorta trying to get back to. It's just one more acknowledgment that we live in a postmodern culture and things like "D&D" have been...

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

In any case, Tolkien's work is replete with examples of people having items way beyond their "level" of power. Gollum alone is a perfect example of someone breaking all sorts of wealth-by-level rules, so any D&D adaptation would have to reassess those rules and act in accordance with the spirit...

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

Boromir's horn was probably a mundane item characteristic of the Captain of Gondor. When orcs heard it, they pooped a little. When the Gondorians found it split in half, they pooped a little as well.
