    Wire Fu Demonic Magical Superheroes

Let's not talk about RPGs anymore. Let us talk about computer operating systems. Of the OSs currently in use, there are two important ones: Windows and Unix. Of these, Windows is by far the most used -- something about 80% of all computers running today use some version of Windows -- and...

    OK... that's just vulgar...

I can kind of see the female-ish shape around the sword, but that eye is way too high up to suggest that sort of thing. From far away it looks like a chipped gemstone; from closer it looks more organic, but still like a Dragon's eye. As a design, though, it's still a fugly sword.

    What are the biggest threats?

I'm joining the chorus of "Wizards dragging their feet in publishing the SRD". Everything else can be lived with.

    When is D&D not D&D?

    A kindred spirit!

    New Tiefling Fluff (not WotC)

Fold Aasimar and Genasi into the Tiefling? That would be cool, although then I'd probably prefer to keep another of the terms. Tiefling seems to be the worst name of the bunch...

    Elemental Planes Killed

Amen. The 3e MotP specifically stated that the cosmology of D&D was unspecified and that different campaign settings could present different cosmologies; it presented several alternatives for cosmologies, like planar orrery, cloud and the Great Wheel. So the GW does not really enjoy 30 years...

    WotC Blogs II

If I remember correctly, in 3e, 90% of the world has Commoner class... the other NPC classes take up anothe 5 or 6% of the world population. The PC classes make up the other 4 or 5%...

    A Gentleperson's Wager: Druids in the PHB1

Flush 'em, I say! I was weaned on 2e Specialty Priests, so either we have a system for emulating that or every priest's a Cleric. No special-casing for Druids, if I have anything to say for it! (obviously, I don't :p ) It would be cool if we could have a Crusading Priest (current Cleric), a...

    Osyluth, not Bone Devil

Nope, that was the Gelugon (Ice Demons, or something). Osyluth are Lesser, if memory serves, and were pretty much relegated to foot-soldiering...

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

This is an interesting point, and I concede that the class can be conceptually very broad in scope -- considering you allow more than the Core 3. However, in practice, single Fighters cannot have that much flexibility, for the single reason that the number of feats a Fighter possesses is...

Please explain Flail usage (SCA / Historical)

Flails were originally derived from grain-threshing implements -- basically short clubs attached by hinges to longer staves. They work through the good old lever mechanism to allow greater force to be applied at the end -- the striking head is typically moving at a higher speed, and thus having...

    Design and Development: Cosmology

I think you're not grasping the idea. This is done to emulate the idea of Fairy Realm from old fairy tales. The deep, dark forest is home to wolves, goblins and worse, but on a full moon when the borders between the worlds wear thinner, powerful and capricious spirits can come and play havoc...

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

Funny, I'm usually a 2e fanboy, but the one thing I got from Day 1 reading the PHB back in 1992 was that Illusionists were the mockery of Mage you were stuck with if you wanted to play a Gnome. I wish Illusionists were more interesting 15 years ago; if they become interesting now, it's better...

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

It seems to me they're restoring a lot of the 1e Illusionist spells which were encamped by the 2e Mage. To use a current expression, "the Illusionist mugged the Wizard and took back his stuff"... Regardless, it's inevitable that the versatility of the Wizard be pared down a bit. As things...

    D&D 4E Women in 4E

I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Could you repeat what you said? :p Well, except for the men being more clean-shaven on the Harlequin romance covers, and swords (if present) tending more to the rapier end of the spectrum rather than the two-hander, I see very little difference between...

    D&D 4E Women in 4E

I haven't been the biggest buyer of 3.5e material, so I can't comment on the presence or absence of them. I seem to remember a few back in 2e, though, and we have a couple for 4e already. This is good, IMHO, since as a rule Dwarf women have this combination of round faces and sharp eyes which...

    Summon and Shapechange

I second that motion. I think Astral Constructs are lame from a fluff point of view, but from the crunch point of view an astral construct-like table would be inherently simpler to balance out than just picking monsters from the MM, because the ability screening process has already been done...

    D&D 4E 4E Devils vs. Demons article

Mirtek, my friend, there is no reason to prefer even 3e D&D to Dark Eye, Ars Magica, and whatever else is out there. So why is it a problem with 4e? The only objective difference between those is that you can't have Beholders or Mind Flayers in published adventures for any of those but D&D, so...

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

Funny, I'm in the complete opposite camp. I HATE cataclysmic events with the passion of a thousand burning suns. It's what ruined Dragonlance: Three hundred and fifty years separate the Cataclysm and the War of the Lance, and then Krynn falls into a pattern where Gods leave, then come back...

What About Dragons? (NOT the highest-level monster?)

One of the earlier Design and Development articles dealt with a battle against a Dragon. Remember, the 500-hp trigger? According to that, Dragons are near the top of the complexity scale for monsters, so they're better off dealing in the previews with monsters which are more representative of...
