"I Quit" Public Play - Am I just an impatient jerk? (LONG)

Suggesting I volunteer to run it is a fair point. I am sensitive to the fact that I am complaining about a free service. I don't think it will solve my immediate problem, though. Even if I volunteered, I can not do much against a culture that is so tolerant of people arriving VERY late and...

"I Quit" Public Play - Am I just an impatient jerk? (LONG)

I feel a little less guilty now :). I should have added that I have had good experiences with other public gaming and even (on a couple of occasions) DnD game days. I just attended my first Gencon and had good experiences with a variety of board games (Elder Sign, Mansions of Madness, Legend...

"I Quit" Public Play - Am I just an impatient jerk? (LONG)

I think I am giving up all public tabletop RPG play. Recently I have been playing in DnD Encounters and some game days before that. This is not really a reaction to the Encounters program or 4e though - the problems would be similar with PF or any other system. I am curious if I have just...

Looking for a hotel - how screwed am I?

Thank you for the reassurance. It had not crossed my mind that I could actually attend the ENnies. I will have to check that out. This is one of those life long dreams that is still not completely real.

Looking for a hotel - how screwed am I?

I was able to find something around $200 a night that is close enough that I won't need a car (or parking). I am curious about the con experience side, though. How does having a nearby (say 3 blocks) hotel change the Gencon experience?

Looking for a hotel - how screwed am I?

I just made arrangement that will allow me to attend Gencon for the first time this year. It looks like there are no hotel rooms available through the Gencon housing service for the length of the event. I am considering staying a little bit away and renting a car. How terrible an idea is that?

    Do gargoyles have a god?

I vaguely recall FR 3e having anti-deist gargoyles - not merely atheists. The fluff was that the race of gargoyles actively sought to destroy deities. I am not an expert on FR and YMMV - but this was an interesting option that differentiated gargoyles from the typical model of "evil race" has...

Has anyone emailed Plannerzone mentioned on the news page?

I was selected as well. Long time casual player - recent convert to 4E and DDI. EDIT: sorry, typo.

Still no SRD for 3rd party companies

I could see production schedules being quite restrictive - but are we talking about 3 months of lead time to print or 3 weeks? I simply don't know. This is not what most people are complaining about, though. Again, much of the layout work could be done in advance - one just has to be careful...

Still no SRD for 3rd party companies

I may be way off base here having not actually worked for an RPG company but I will throw this out there anyway. How much of the development of materials is really based on the crunch in the PHB? For example, I am currently taking a group through Paizo's Rise of the Runelords. The most...

Eberron = power creep or just pushing the envelope?

Don't forget the snails and the hell hound tails. Seriously though, I am concerned about the balance but want to try it out. From what I have read in the book so far ( :) - Thank you FLGS - I am about half-way through), I have not seen any external balancing factors (other than role-playing...

    Silven Crossroads/Harry Potter RPG speculation

If they want to hit the same demographic, WotC or others should consider a Samurai Jack license. It is not as popular but the world is larger and more diverse, the license would be cheaper, and the originators are more likely to play ball. That cartoon just cries out for a slimmed down 3.5 game.

    "Classic" Dragon Articles

I have an odd favorite (favorite except for some that have already been mentioned here many times, at least). I think it was in the last year or so before issue 200. There was an article on "bonded weapons". These were weapons that were composed of elemental or energy-based materials (defined...

    What's That One Book Called?

You know... the one with the slightly overpowered prestige class. I think it also had a couple of feats that were munchy... :)

How much do you prepare for a homebrew?

I have also found the Dungeoncraft articles wonderful though I fall in the camp of people who enjoy world building as much as actually playing. After playing for years, I have found that Final Fantasy titles have really started to influence my world building - sort of. I know focus a lot of...

    Percentage of Gamers in Texas

Raised in SA, live in Frisco, TX now (with a few other players - though we are on the 13th month of hiatus). I have never had problems finding gamers in North Dallas when I have tried (read: when I was less afraid about getting tenure ;) ) <typo edit>

Adventures don't Sell? Do you agree? Redman Article

One thing many people are overlooking is opportunity costs for developers. I think that Orcus is right that many of the problems with the module market are caused by the lack of quality (or at least strategic thinking) involved in D20 modules. I like some of the Necromancer modules and the SL...

A proposal for the "new red box" for a simplified D20

I think there is a consensus that there should be some stripped down D20-like game to draw in younger players. The problem has been how exactly to arrange it. I had an idea. Someone (WotC or some other publisher) needs to secure the rights to Samurai Jack and make a simplified OGC game based...
