No, since mindblade is based off your size, like unarmed strikes or natural weapons. I expected a half-giant soulknife class variant, though I see nothing wrong with letting your mindblade be 1 size larger. :)

You retain your stats, but I think you will take a massive hit to your NA, because the taer doesn't have any (or very little, IIRC).

Unapproachable east has the taer, which is a medium sized giant. So alter self would allow you to assume the form of a medium-sized character. :)

There is a narrow range of lvs for which it is quite strong (letting you access 9th lv spells at lv14), but it pretty much sucks outside of that breakpoint.
