    Looking for a 3.5 monster

The Tomb of Horrors revised (a pdf from Necromancer games) has a 3.5 decapus, as well as the other new monsters from Module B3. I would highly recommend the pdf -- I've certainly got my money's worth.

    Dming Vault of the Drow

I think your basic take is spot on -- D3 is more of a mini-campaign setting than an adventure. Very open-ended, few specific details. A fun way to re-spin this thread might be to brainstorm plot hooks for the Vault. Endur is right about pointing out Dragon 298/300 -- it's an excellent treatment...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

I didn't get that far conceptually -- I basically started with character creation, and the weird ability score modifications were an immediate (and seemingly significant) hurdle. Had I ever gotten to combat, saving throws would have had similar issues -- now I think I understand why C&C handles...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

I had considered a project like OSRIC shortly after the draft SRD was released -- my goal would have been to create a stripped down version of the 3e ruleset that simulated the old basic D&D red book. The big stumbling blocks I encountered were the ability modifiers and the XP tables. Almost...

Classed Drow in Monster Manual IV

Many thanks. Based on the hue and cry that arose over classed monsters when MMIV came out, I expected there to be at least a dozen. I've been modeling old school male drow fighter/MUs using wizard, fighter, and eldritch knight levels -- but replacing all that with just duskblade levels might...

Classed Drow in Monster Manual IV

I know there are a bunch of drow with class levels in the new MM -- I think some have ninja levels. Are there any with duskblade or scout levels?

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

Crazy Igors? Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while. Is he still doing business?

    D&D 3E/3.5 Tomb of Horrors for 3.5

Played it as a one shot a couple of months ago and had a blast. It ended in a TPK -- the revision is just as deadly as the 1e incarnation. That freaking mutant gargoyle is crazy deadly: I think he alone killed 4 guys from a 9-man expedition.

Best book for large scale combats?

There's a great thread on the main page that gives detailed descriptions of the various mass combat systems out there. Executive summary: there's no clear-cut system that blows the others away under all circumstances.

Just sent an updated document out to all reviewers. Send me an email if you didn't see it in your inbox.

Anyone else not too fond of the new stat block setup?

I don't think I ever saw that. Any idea what issues they tried this out? Any examples of this format online?

    D1-3 Descent/Kuo-Toa/Drow

Yup. I've finished D2 this week, and am tweaking a couple of things in D3 -- I'm hoping to send an updated document to all reviewers this weekend with D1, D2, and the first 1/3 of D3.

    Your favorite nonstandard races?

Just to shake things up, I have been toying with a campaign that would move away from the standard Tolkienesque race array and instead offer +0 LA PC races from almost every available creature type . . . humans would be the only big humanoid race, but a rejiggered elf would fill the fey role...

How long did this session take?

Also metagaming here -- I think it would take my group about 4-5 hours of play at the table to get through all that. The NPC encounters could easily fill a lot of time. However, there's probably 30-40 minutes of initial chit chat, spell selection, leveling things, etc. And probably another...

Truly Horrid Umber Hulk CR Horrible?

An umber hulk is a CR 7 Large aberration with 8 HD. The 3.5 MM has an advanced elite version dubbed the "truly horrid umber hulk," a CR 14 Huge aberration with 20 HD. But how did they get CR 14? I get 7 + 1 (elite array) + 1 (size increase) + 3 (12 extra HD divided by 4 for an aberration) = CR...

    Got Fiend Factory?

Thanks. I thought I had posted a link once upon a time, but it seems to have disappeared. Maybe that was during the Great Lost EnWorld period.

Mike Mearl's on simplifying skills in D&D

Keep in mind, though, this is just a random musing on his blog -- not an actual proposal or even a thought experiment.

Mike Mearl's on simplifying skills in D&D

I like the basic thrust of his suggestion -- simplifying and consolidating the skills system, which to me is the one piece of 3.x that still needs serious work. Oh, there are plenty of things to tweak, but skills alone are the subsystem I would want to see drastically revised. Sure, it's a heck...
