    I don't really see how the rules could possibly FORCE you to use more monsters or FORCE you to be fighting on lava and ice all of the time. The PHB is not going to say something like: Roll d10: On a 1, you're fighting on lava! The designers aren't stupid. They know the game.

    Okay, reduce their non-existant "CON" stat by 2, and they lose 1 hp per CR. Reduce their "DEX" by 2, and they lose 1 AC (or Ref Defense). Why do they need to have stats to show the effects of stat drain? Unless you intend to Con drain them to oblivion. But that'll happen when they lose all...

    As for stats.... I like the IDEA of having stats for monsters. I hate the execution of it. Having the 6 stats means that you have 6 bonuses which affect every damn aspect of creature creation. 16 Dex? Well that's gonna give +3 to Ref, certain skills, Init bonus, Armor... That alone makes...

    Oh, and by the way... In your example: In what order does Harry go compared to groups 1-4? And what order do groups 1-4 go in themselves? That depends entirely on who has the larger Dex bonus. Tie goes to the Dex bonus in Initiative. IIRC.

    The concept of HD should be taken out back and shot. It's unnecessary complication. A monster with a d12 HD should never get a 1 or a 12, it just throws the balance of the encounter off. Example a 5 HD undead creature with no Con bonus can either have 5 hp, or 60 hp due to totally arbitrary...

    I'd personally be very interested in just how stat blocks are being reduced. I think it has to be more than just reduction of Special Abilities to get me interested. There's way too much number crunching in Monster creation. Frankly, I think it was a heck of a lot easier to DM when monsters...

    Now it's either bubbles of purple or blue with purple bits in it for rested mode. Oooooooooh. More XP if your players stay in a tavern. Player 1: "Awww.. Do we have to go back to the Inn?" DM: "Only if you want double XP. Besides. The Inn is where I keep all my mysterious strangers."
