TSR The Cult of Abaddon - Release from NuTSR/TheEvilDM

In fact, I think I see the issue with this and many other attempts at module writing. A lack of a technical writing class. Modules are not just stories, they are instructions. When I was completing my software engineering degree I was required to take a technical writing class. A lot of the...

TSR The Cult of Abaddon - Release from NuTSR/TheEvilDM

Ah, nobody said that was the case earlier. That explains the quotes. Mind you, it's the wrong place to be vague; the DM isn't a player. Be literal and up front. "The villagers of both towns are unaware that the river is being poisoned by the Curse." How hard is that to write?

If the water (and it's quality therein) is not a part of the adventure, then the paragraph is completely redundant and pointless to even have. I recognize the style though. A lot of the oldest D&D modules would do that because they were locked into the idea of "We have to describe everything so...

TSR The Cult of Abaddon - Release from NuTSR/TheEvilDM

I just spent a little time looking at WTG's example page from their upcoming "The Haunted Ruins". The layout and artwork are well done. The writing is... well it isn't good. It's far better than Abaddon, but that's a low bar. The biggest issue is the target audience. The sections meant for the...

TSR The Cult of Abaddon - Release from NuTSR/TheEvilDM

Basically, WotC could serve a C&D and possibly file an injunction to stop them from even selling the module. They didn't do it often after 3E's OGL, I recall one module that got blocked because they used shadow dragons which were not in the SRD but in a licensed FR product.

I think they initially thought the trademarks were free and clear to grab, until they got served C&D's from WotC. Then they went for the legal battle. Ernie showed absolutely no understanding of how trademarks work, much less copyright and IP.

And you should absolutely be bothered by that! The first rule of written communication is "Read aloud what you wrote. Does it make sense?" That wasn't done here. And the writer deserves every negative feedback they deserve. I give high school students slack, not professional "writers" on...

Hah! I'd love to see that. It won't happen. LaNasa is likely to change his name and flee the country and leave Ernie to take all the fallout.

Part of it offends me simply because it's so lazy. I work in software engineering and many of my co-workers are from other nations and cultures. (Because the USA, big surprise, doesn't produce enough math and science oriented people to fill the need) And so I have to make sure my communication...

And now on TSR CON FB page they have posted a video preview of SF:NG. funny enough they don't mention the game title. The race is on to find the source of the video!

It's pretty pathetic. WotC has never served C&D's like TSR did of old. "You can't use the term Hit Points! We'll sue!" Honestly, the antics of LaNasa and nuTSR remind me of the film "The Road to Wellville", where one of the characters is trying to replicate Kellogg's corn flakes and eventually...

TSR The Cult of Abaddon - Release from NuTSR/TheEvilDM

Thanks for more details! At first I was like "Three room dungeon? WTF?!" but I remembered the level range... Although to my mind, any OSR game should have at least a modest-sized dungeon with the understanding that multiple trips may be needed. Two separate towns? That seems very strange...

I'm disinclined to pay even $9 for this train wreck to see for myself, but I am curious about the actual adventure itself. @DLIMedia already confirmed it's not anything special or worth salvaging. I'm curious if it's sandbox, narrative, if it tries to introduce any unique monsters, if the...

I wondered that myself. I mean, it's pretty easy to just snap a pic with your phone of a freshly arrived box of printed modules. Maybe on a slightly cluttered table. Nobody would question if you REALLY had them. Plus, saying "We got them, we're shipping them out" means they got a time limit...
