Arcane Defiling for Other Power Sources

Find it here. For the future, I plan on expanding on this with a few more feats, paragon paths and/or epic destinies, and something to toy with martial classes. Comments/suggestions?

    Scion of the Last Word

Paragon path encounter powers don't usually increase at 21st level, unless there's a few I missed.

    Race - Merfolk

Maybe Double Eyelids would be a better name. They have one thin sideways see-through set of eyelids as well as more normal eyelids, and they are biologically used to peering through the darkness of the ocean floor. If something splashes into their eyes, their second eyelids can wipe it away...

    Race - Merfolk

Before you all jump down my throats, no, merfolk do not have fins. They have feet like all other humanoids. Picture a blue, scaled humanoid with fins instead of ears, gills in addition to lungs, big black shiny eyes, and webbed hands and feet. Merfolk have a long tradition of protective and...

    Scion of the Last Word

Great idea! A couple of comments: 1) This path doesn't seem more strikery as you said, it actually seems more controllery. 2) The two attacks seem way overpowered, especially the 11th level power. It's an almost guaranteed critical hit with 4[W] + primary ability modifier damage! Most...

Fortune Cards, we just received a preview

A few people have talked about putting the power of Fortune Cards into the DM's hands, and I've gone a step further by saying let_the_monsters_use_the_cards_too. This adds an additional layer of excitement if you find encounters to frequently devolve into at-will spamfests, while not giving too...

Fortune Cards, we just received a preview

I'm going to test an idea for using Fortune Cards in my home game soon. I'll be back later with details on what I did and how it went.

    New D&D In-Store Play Program

It wouldn't make sense to advertise a "hardcore encounters" and then tell you, "but you have to control the monsters themselves." Player:...Okay, the monster turns around and twiddles its thumbs. Anyone object? Other players: Nope, sounds good. We win! Wouldn't be a very good move.

    Gnome Variant

When it has you use your second wind, then you get all the benefits for using your second wind AND spending a healing surge, without having to spend the action to use your second wind. The cons are that you don't get the defense bonus and you can't use your second wind in the battle again...

    New D&D In-Store Play Program

I think it sounds like a cool idea, as long as they keep it alongside Encounters, so they have organized games for the beginners and the experts. I might try it. Also, this is pretty good proof that Wizards is not going down the drain like so many people are saying, or at least they don't...

How to Turn Off Emails about Replies to Threads

I've set my options to subscribe to threads, but not send me any emails. This has worked until recently, when I've started receiving emails whenever someone posts in a thread I am subscribed to. I've checked, and my options have not changed. Is there some way to fix this? Thanks!

    All About Skill Challenges

The advantage mechanic from the Rules Compendium works beautifully. Basically, when a PC fails a check or makes a DC higher than the goal, they can spend an advantage to choose from the following list: * A success against a Hard DC counts as 2 successes. * A success against a Hard DC...

    Neat morale system

This is a really easy system, and I'm definitely going to use it to speed up combat! Of course, to balance monsters leaving early, there might be a bit more danger in the room... Remind me to XP you for the great idea when I can. I've been spending all my effort on power levelling...

    Operation: Power Level Gary

Wait...this thread is looking awfully familiar... Really, though, this is a great idea. None shall lay claim to being greatest but the Greatest Himself!

    Gnome Variant

Eh, that's kind of metagamey. I'd allow it in my game because the only time it would matter would be when it was plot relevant. I wouldn't allow monsters with super-dominate to let the gnome use it on them, though. What about 2 additional hit points (4 at 21st) and a saving throw? Or maybe...

    Gnome Variant

Well, monsters do have healing surges according the MMs, but they can't activate them on their own. I'd say animals are the same. Regardless, activating the second wind is a great idea to balance it with dwarves. But since it could be used on any PC instead of just yourself, as a minor...

    XP Levels Revealed!

Ah, yes, that's in 4e, but they call it a nerra. It focuses more on the mirror aspect of the creature than the weird holes in it, and I don't think it mentions any sound.
