    What would soften the blow?

Given all the shaken fizz on the topic I imagine there would be precious little pop to need cushioning from. ;)

    augmented crittical

Hmm interesting Notmousse.. We disagree with SKR but for differing reasons. When I examined the power of keen it struck me as a rather poor powerplay. The only time it looks good is with a 2handed 18+ crit weapon, using power attack, and with a large average damage. Oh, and back when vorpal...

    augmented crittical

SKR's argument about the specialness is unconvincing. The overpowered argument is an argument that never was.

After being DM can PLAYING ever be as good?

I was a player for years, a dm for years and finally I'm a player again. Being a good player is 3/4 the labour and as much fun. I think being a dm requires more organisation, stability and time management. Thank goodness I'm a player in this hobby again.

Rope Trick vs. Leomund's Tiny Hut and better.

Well, from my experience, night time attacks can be a good source of fun. Night time attacks put a value on resources used during the day and they allow the heroes to decide on all their cunning tricks of defence. What I'm talking about when I said "cool" are scenes primed for heroic defensive...

    Rent-A-DM

For me d&d is a fun game I play with my friends, and I very much hope my friends are there for the enjoyment. If it becomes a drag we can swap the dm or even take a (lengthy) break. I guess my pov is that I spend so much of my work time concerning over finances - I'd rather my free time be far...

Rope Trick vs. Leomund's Tiny Hut and better.

Yeah, the whole place-to-sleep spells generally suck. Extra-dimensional this and concealment that, when what I'd prefer are spells that conjure defences & eventually battlements. It would be much cooler to have spells that create cool defensive structures. Anyway, nevermind...

    What ruins a campaign?

Oh I don't know... DM burnout killed some, reactive playstyle also killed some more. I think probably just the burnout. I know that I can't provide a quality session as dm for at least 3 months, and certainly not a campaign for years.

If 3.0 Haste were a spell in 3.5, what level would it be?

The 'Quicken Spell' feat would be my comparison. A 3.0 Haste-like spell that acts like the quicken spell feat except: - can be learned by anyone with access to arcane transmutation (standard copying procedure) - it lasts 1 rd per caster level - doesn't require any need to prepare the quickened...

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

Hmmm, yeah, I think my knight's answer to the honour of combat is that there is precious little to be gained. Imo the battle against the stronger cult was defined by he and his fellow Knight flying, angelic style, over to the otherwise out of reach altar and taking a half dozen smites but saving...

playing a paladin in world that is not black and white

Kingdoms can pass whatever laws they choose but lawfulgoodness is defined at a higher level. Anyhoo, what that means is when the worldly lawfulgood does not match the heavenly lawfulgood then the worldly is in error. But I won't push this tangent any further. Btw, good luck. I think your...

Interrupting the BBEG to Start Combat

Well we begin combat and then roll initiative, i.e. a threatening move starts the whole shebang. Noone would be surprised so everyone rolls initiative once someone gets aggro. In this intepretation there is no reason for interrupting dialogue except to shortcut to the action. Either/or is...

playing a paladin in world that is not black and white

See I don't think freeing the slaves would not have been lawful good. The law was being subverted by someone else. If he was so cunning or powerful to cover it up from the law of the land then the Paladin would have to fall back on upholding the lawfulgoodness of the multiverse. In which case...

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

He he, remember Nightfall, I'm not my character eh? ;) But cheekiness aside, yep, there were at least two better ways to deal with the situation. One is what you're saying - the draw and ambush, and the other was to manipulate and smite the weakened surviving cult.

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

I may have not been so clear but my Knight never had any intention of allowing any sacrifice to go ahead. No, what he was doing was a 'legalese' loophole where he would return with a sacrifice as he promised but once he had done exactly that he would declare that promise fulfilled. Then in the...

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

Yep, that's exactly where I'm living at the mo. Newtown specifically. My email is brendolfus@hotmail.com if you want to drop on by with an update of your game. :) The solo session is a difficult one to do, mainly because the dm needs to be up to speed... I've run before but yeah, they can be...

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

Thanks Nightfall, yes I think a bit of extra depth roleplaying could be in order. All the characters are going to explore their character's development during this year of downtime, and at the end of it have some new addition to the character. Btw, what's a GR Assassin? We just houseruled this...

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

Thanks all. Ah yes, um I'm afraid Sigurd that most of the known evil cultists at this point have been despatched forcefully to the netherworld. All innocents that could be saved have been saved, although there was about 150 that died indirectly from the heroes actions. Essentially they were...

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

Thanks for the replies to date all. Yep, as I see it my character's morals have slid pretty bad. Side comment - the alliance was pretty frosty from go with both sides seeing an opportunity but not trusting the other. Not giving some reason to stay the original sacrifice would have condemned an...

Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

Okee dokee, some basic details. *Some RttToEE Spoilers* The heroes form a temporary alliance with an evil cult to destroy another stronger evil cult. The head of evil cult1 was about to sacrifice an innocent on an altar to bring favour for the expedition. The...
