    Anyone else miss Dispel Magic?

There are even more contemporary examples than Willow, King Arthur, and the Odyssey. Even in the Harry Potter-verse, wizards can't just turn into whatever they want. Only a select few wizards can change shape, and the potential for abuse is so great that these individuals must be licensed...

    What to call adventurers?

Fortunately, the designers of 4e fixed that problem for us. They're called "heroes." Straight out of the comic books, maybe, but I like it. Edit: Maybe not the greatest for your mercenary/sellsword example, but it's something! :)

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

They certainly should, as many children's body parts have been cropping up in recent playtests and adventures. Granted, in Raiders of Oakhurst they're gnome children so no one really cares, but still.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Very nice... Thanks for posting! Nice to see all the rules applied together like this in one place. Your players seemed to have a really good grasp of what their characters could do. Your warlock, especially, seemed to be having a lot of fun outside of constantly being on fire. And Skamos...

    Kobold Wyrmpriest and Kobold Minions

Sooo... you could actually send them to the bottom of the ocean to retrieve sunken treasure, since they can't drown! Unless a fish bites them, then the whole operation is down the toilet... But think of the possibilities!

Are you going to buy an EXTRA copy of the PHB?

Considering that all the players powers will be written down on their character sheets, and wizards won't have to rifle through spell lists since they also are limited to the powers on their sheets, I don't see a player without a PHB being at any disadvantage at all. At creation and level up...

    Hit Points?

I made this mistake too, and I was never very heavily invested in 3.0 or 3.5 beyond NWN. But I did play AD&D and 2nd edition quite a bit. So, even having been away for a little while, it is hard to deprogram some of those basic assumptions about how D&D works.

    Tiers Excerpt (merged)

You might be able to swap them out as you progress. The section on higher level characters dealt mostly with encounter, dailys, and utilities. All it really says is "You know two at-will powers from your class; remember to increase damage if your level is 21st or higher. " It doesn't really...

    Tiers Excerpt (merged)

If you look at Monsters & More, where monster stats have been compiled, even PC race foes are calculated as monsters, not as PCs... ie the Human Mage has monster-level hitpoints and only a couple spells. No reason I suppose that you couldn't make enemies that work just like PCs, but it seems...

Ahh.. Constitution SCORE, not Constitution MODIFIER. Yeah, my brain is gonna need some deprogramming hehe. Thanks!

    Tiers Excerpt (merged)

All of the pregen characters have waaaay more hitpoints than laid out in the article (twice as many, I believe). Are there alternate methods, or were the pregens given double hitpoints to make the D&DE encounters easier?

    Kobold Wyrmpriest and Kobold Minions

Minions actually do have hitpoints... Something like 1 per level + some unknown modifier. If you look at vampire spawn (the only other minion we can see) they are a 6th level monster with 10 hp. So "a minion dies when it takes damage" isn't actually an accurate description of what happens to...

CLOSED: Final uploaded. Thank you editors.

Nothing to add, but I do want to say your work on this has been tremendous. Thanks for compiling all of this information for us.

D&D 4E From the 4e MM preview: Astraljamming?!

I agree. I was really captivated by Spelljammer, but never found much success with it as a setting. But Spelljammer set in the planes? Now THAT'S a good idea, especiially since the planes are no longer as sequestered as they once were. They might have to change the name to something other...

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

It doesn't actually say the target is allowed to take ANY actions while under the effect of charm other than interpose himself against attackers. It's just as likely the "if the target is next to the succubus" line means "unless the succubus moves away from him" and not vice versa. As written...

D&D 4E WoTC is increasing the amount of 4e info, but..

And if not for the PHB lite, where would you find this information? That's the point, that specific posters (heros, really!) have had to compile all this information on their own based on drips of information from playtesters, miniature stat cards, D&DE observations, and pain-staking internet...

    Sidewind Charging, driving me nuts.

"Charging provokes opportunity attacks." -Scalegloom rules appendix So the target and any other foe encountered along the way gets a free basic attack against a charging character. In other words, a character is trading a special ability attack for a basic attack, and allowing his target a...

    Sidewind Charging, driving me nuts.

I can't imagine any good reason a PC would want to give up a daily, encounter, or at-will attack to purposefully provoke an attack of opportunity against themselves and make a basic attack. Why is this a good strategy? Attacks of opportunity are interrupts, they occur *before* the PC gets...

PCs With Recharging Abilities... Why Not?

Because PC's don't need recharge abilities, they have a whole slew of daily, encounter, and at-will powers. NPCs have recharge abilities because they're, well, NPCs. They're supposed to be challenging and keep players on their toes. PC's get daily powers and Second Winds. Monsters don't get...
