    D&D 5E I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

Tell me something...did the BBEG get down to around three hp by playing hop-scotch? Or is it possible that the fighter (and his teamates) did some rather more dramatic things during the "fight"?

    D&D 5E I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

So....you didn't read what hit points are, as specified in the playtest document. Question answered.

    D&D 5E I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

Shame as it's quite "old school". More than that the ability is created around how hit points are defined, so it'd be like hating a Reeses Peanut Butter cup because it contains peanut butter *and* chocolate. They sorta go together...

    D&D 5E I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

Actually given that Hit Points don't simply represent physical damage capacity, he doesn't even need to wear down the opponent physically. He could quite easily be damaging the enemies' will to fight with those close shaves. But to the OP - try decaf bro.

D&D 5E Protection from Chaos Part XI: The D&D Next Online Playtest Agreement

Wizards stopped being my friend with the OPTA and accompanying FAQ. That out of the way, does epistemology trump law? Or, to put it another way, does the OPTA in any way, shape, or form, place any burden on me to ensure that I'm playing with other people who've signed up for the playtest? If...

D&D 5E Protection from Chaos Part XI: The D&D Next Online Playtest Agreement

If that were true, then you couldn't argue the rules and quote the book to support your argument, since you'd be reproducing the book via soundwaves to your tabletop buddies. I think. Man, I wish we could get back to discussing Dungeons & Dragons instead of Lawyers & Llamas.

D&D 5E Protection from Chaos Part XI: The D&D Next Online Playtest Agreement

Look through it again - that section lists a series of actions, of which creating derivative material is but one equal action to the others. Thus, it's about way more than derivative material, at least as I understand it.

D&D 5E Protection from Chaos Part XI: The D&D Next Online Playtest Agreement

Even if I bought that (or more importantly thought a Judge would buy that), where in the OPTA does it cover this?

D&D 5E Protection from Chaos Part XI: The D&D Next Online Playtest Agreement

WOTC sez: "Can I run an online game via email, Skype, Google Hangout or a play-by-post forum? No, you may not run an online game on third parties sites at this time." If I run a game via Skype that does not make use of any feature of Skype save the audible component (i.e. we're talking), then...

D&D 5E Living Dice Article: "Is It Really D&D Next?"

It was six men of Indostan To learning much inclined, Who went to see the Elephant (Though all of them were blind), That each by observation Might satisfy his mind. The First approach'd the Elephant, And happening to fall Against his broad and sturdy side, At once began to bawl: "God bless me...

D&D 5E Protection from Chaos Part XI: The D&D Next Online Playtest Agreement

I'm hoping that they will clarify and make it less restrictive. I think it's a matter of who wins - the left hand or the right hand. Actually, I know this to not be true after a comment overheard and verified of a naughty method of obtaining the materials without signing/agreeing to the the...

D&D 5E Protection from Chaos Part XI: The D&D Next Online Playtest Agreement

My question about a possible conclusion being drawn about prohibiting online play is that strangers (who may not have signed up for the playtest) may participate and therefore be exposed, but how is that any different from my offline experience? My offline experience is that I signed up and got...

    Playtesters: Are you using miniatures?

No to minis, but we enjoyed the playtest. We also don't use minis in our Pathfinder game.

    The Playtest Agreement

Honestly, I respect that - although I think it's a sign of WotC shooting themselves in the foot. After all, I think they'd benefit from your feedback, whereas I'm able to provide it because we playtested it in person. I do note that I make no claims that all participants had signed up for the...

    The Playtest Agreement

I doubt it'll be answered, but I asked at the chat today: "Given some of the controversy regarding the OPTA and how restrictive the FAQ interprets/defines playtest options, why are those restrictions in place - such as not being able to play online via Skype and so on? Can we expect a more...

For a More Old-School Experience, Don't Use Background and Theme

Ah, I see where you're going. I'm not opposed to it because it actually worked well for our playtest, such that I don't know if it'd be worth the extra effort to worry about advantage. But hey, that's what playtest is for (not to mention experimentation). As it is, I think those of us in...

For a More Old-School Experience, Don't Use Background and Theme

How can you be sure? After all, don't people "use up their luck", bemoan rolling a 20 when just playing around because they've "used up the luck of the dice", don't people have "luck streaks", and so on. Or to use your position, how can you say that Slayer doesn't represent the fighter being...
