    5E Retriever (from Pathfinder) conversion

epithet: just out of curiosity, why the swallow whole ability? Everything else about your retriever is a bang-on conversion from the original (with the exception of the plane shift.) Was it just to make it a little more dangerous? Swallow whole just seems like an odd choice for a giant spider...

    5E Retriever (from Pathfinder) conversion

This looks great and I will definitely use this in my current HL underdark campaign. The only modifications I'd add are "(self only)" with its plane shift ability, and under Legendary Actions it should read: "Each round, it can fire one ray at a single target." Great stuff 👍

D&D 5E Running Tomb of Horrors. Advice?

I've run the 1e version and the 5e playtest version (it's very similar to the Yawning Portal version). Even though the YP version does not have the teeth of the original, it's still dangerous and runs pretty well. My biggest tip of advice would be not to allow any character to take the Dungeon...

    D&D 5E Example Rivals (Xanathar's Guide)

While I can't say I've used or made npcs with the sole intent that they be rivals to the PCs, I've had just that sort of thing happen in my games through play. As an example, I had a high priest of St. Curhbert (lawful good) who subscribed to the "Old Testament" ways of the priesthood. He...

D&D 5E Setting Party level vs an Ancient Red Dragon

Late to the party here. It sounds like your group was well prepared and had a lot of resources, so there is only so much one dragon (or DM) can do against that if you allow the forcecage to work on a gargantuan dragon (I wouldn't). I'm curious to know what other spells the dragon had besides the...

D&D 5E An additional component for Resurrection

This is what we've been doing in my group, it works very well. Each time a PC is raised, it's one strike against his future death saves so a PC who dies more than three times is done.

    D&D 5E 5th edition force cage spell

My players just reached 13th level and I was going over the 7th level spells selection when I read forcecage. Yeah, it's really damn good but I'll wait and see how it works in play, I'm sure the party wizard will take it. As others have mentioned, it's a high level spell so it should be pretty...

U1: Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh MAPS

Wow! These maps are awesome, MichaelArkAngel, thanks for posting them. Its pure luck that I stumbled across these just as I was planning to start U1 with my group next week. I use an overhead projector to display maps on the game table, these will look so much better than the originals from the...

D&D 5E Speculation on how you think Tomb of Annihilation will start

I'm considering using a time-travel spin on this adventure. From what I know of GH Acererak canon, he ruled (while still a lich, pre-history) over a primitive region known as the Tilva Plateau, which was still very much an untamed land of jungle and prehistoric beasts - so substituting Chult...

    D&D 5E Against the Giants / Yawning Portal in 3D Glory !!

If it's the same type of resin I've used then yes, it's not moldable. You pour it and let it set. That said, I suppose you could experiment with it during its drying time to see if it's malleable when partially dry.

D&D 5E What do you want in a published adventure? / Adventure design best practices?

I6 Ravenloft uses the tarot cards subsystem, and another module is I8 Ravager of Time (another gem from the UK) uses rules for drastically aging the PCs temporarily. Excellent examples that use subsystems/variant rules within the context of the adventure itself. That said, I'm fine with these...

    D&D 5E Against the Giants / Yawning Portal in 3D Glory !!

shoak1: these are stunning! Very, very nicely done! I'm not sure which one I like best, all of them are excellent but the azer dwarf images on the pillars of the fire giant hall are an outstanding touch. This takes me back. I did similar projects during our Age of Worms campaign where I...

D&D 5E What do you want in a published adventure? / Adventure design best practices?

Meh, YMMV. Some fast starts are fine but cliche intros can also work, especially if they don't necessarily lead to the expected outcome. And a slow build can also be very effective. I'm sort of torn on this. I prefer no box text as it allows the DM to engage the players more intimately when...

D&D 5E What Makes a Good Urban Adventure?

As promised, here's the entire deck. There is an obvious light-heartedness about it, I was thinking about the bar fight in Raiders of the Lost Ark while making the deck. Enjoy! Go With the Flow: You are mobbed and pushed 1d6 squares. You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry...: Someone spilled your...

Under these circumstances, of course it's fair.

Sure. I'm out of town until the weekend, so I'll post it when I get home.
