D&D General Skilled Play, or Role Play: How Do You Approach Playing D&D?

All I know is there is a clear and definitive answer of which one is the right and best way to play D&D, while the other way is not only inferior but it's adherents are wrong and (generally) bad people. I will leave it for someone more eloquent to defend the correct side.

"the meaning of the word's Player and Referee have been redefined by Wizards of the Coast and hasbro. I assume they bought Websters and get to define the english language now?" You say that as if they wouldn't release an entire Spelling Bee themed adventure path as well as a Magic cycle based...

D&D General The DM is Not a Player; and Hot Topic is Not Punk Rock

It's funny that this entire argument is resolved with capitalization. A DM is playing the D&D game. They play a game, so they are a player. The DM does not have a Player Character. So as DM, they are not a Player. Is a DM a player? Yes. Is a DM a Player? No. ...I may have hit peak...

D&D General The DM is Not a Player; and Hot Topic is Not Punk Rock

Simple litmus test: You are the regular DM of a D&D group. A nerd acquaintance at a party asks you offhandedly "Hey, do you play D and D?" Do you answer "Yes"? , or "No"? If yes, then you agree DMs are players. If no, you do not agree DMs are players. If you feel compelled to volunteer an...

How to Tell a GM You're Not Having Fun?

Retreater Something occurs to me. Are you starting from a place of assuming that the way your DM is doing it is wrong, and you just need to find a way to show them the error of their ways? Because...that may not be it. You may have to accept that, from their sincere point of view, the way YOU...
