    Why is realism "lame"?

It's not just you. I have been quietly reading this thread and my impression of it matches yours.

    A Question for Sandbox/Hexcrawl DMs

I make use of the following tools for my games: Laptop (I try and keep as much information as I can on my laptop) Excel - this is used to store all my random tables Word - this is used to keep PC/NPC lists as well as notes for the upcoming session PDFs - I have a large collection of PDFs of...

What are the archetypal, iconic qualities of a D&D fantasy setting that you love?

A hex, a town, and a dungeon. The town should include: a local noble (probably a lowly baron or knight) with a small keep; a thieves' guild; an inn/tavern that, for some reason, is regularly filled with adventurers; and an enigmatic wizard. There should also be a few "questionable" characters...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5's Legacy

As far as WotC books go, outside of the core three, the LGG was my favorite. Including third party books, I'd add in A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe. If I had to pare my 3.5 collection down to five books it would be: the core three, plus the LGG and MMS:WE.

    Maximizing Leadership- Followers

Good blog post. Though, I think it is important to note that even if Leadership is allowed in the game, not every DM allows the player to write-up their own followers. In our Greyhawk campaign, we often use followers as the next generation of adventurers. For example, my cleric takes...

D&D 5E Post some pictures that say D&D to you

Two reasons: First, Elmore's works were fairly ubiquitous in TSR publications around the time I started playing D&D. It was hard to play D&D without encountering a Larry Elmore work. The same could be said for Keith Parkinson and Jeff Easley. (For similar reasons, when I think of M:tG art, I...

Marionnen's Musings: Touch AC and Why it's Irrelevant

I like where you are going with these blogs, airwalkrr. Your thoughts on these issues are largely in line with my thinking. Keep up the good work!

Marionnen's Musings: Cohorts and Henchmen and Hirelings, Oh My!

Fighters are actually pretty easy to handle; all that is really needed are abilities, initiative, hit points (hit dice), AC, saves, and to-hit & damage expressions. The rest of the stat block can largely be ignored for the bulk of play. Casters, on ther other hand, are significantly more...

D&D 5E Post some pictures that say D&D to you

So, you just want me to post images by Larry Elmore? :p This is, to me, the essence of D&D.

Marionnen's Musings: Cohorts and Henchmen and Hirelings, Oh My!

airwalkrr - Like you, I am a big fan of using hirelings and henchmen in my campaigns. Also, like you, I find Leadership somewhat unsatisfactory - largely for the reasons you have stated. So, I find your rules to be quite interesting. However, I think you found the weakness in your proposal in...

Fighter, Rogue, Blaster, Healer . . . Balanced?

Nor have I. When we have played using rolled stats its because we chose to roll stats. The decision was self-inflicted. I also like point buy; I am currently playing in such a game. Nowhere in my initial post did I say anything about a DM saying "sorry, you can't play the character you...

Fighter, Rogue, Blaster, Healer . . . Balanced?

In my experience, when using the 4d6 method -- or any other roll then assign method, really -- class choice occurs in between rolling the ability scores and assigning the ability scores. Due to the existence of MAD classes (monk, paladin, etc.), it would be rather silly to pick one's class first...

Why does the D&D website hide its merchandise store?

Is it their store or are those just links to other companies' stores? I don't know if DnDMerch.com is a part of WotC or not? I know Gale Force 9 isn't.

D&D 5E Have you moved on yet? Has Wizard's handled this properly?

I made this statement back in February. Ten months later and my opinion hasn't changed.

    Wartime Battle missions

As an aside, one quick way to help speed up rolling dice is to use the =RANDBETWEEN(#,#) function in Excel. With one click of my mouse I can quickly roll large sets of dice.

D&D 3E/3.5 In Favor of 3.5, With One Reservation.

That's too bad. The style of game that Water Bob is discussing, when run well, with engaged players, is an amazing experience. I am lucky enough to have two DMs who are quite capable of running that style of campaign.
