D&D 5E Long or short rests? What is better?

I kind of expected that. The options I put on the poll were only the ones that came to my mind while typing it. As soon as I get to a computer I plan to add these two options. I like the current system but would change what recharge on each rest. and I would made some other kind of change...

D&D 5E Long or short rests? What is better?

Just to try to finish the "What is balance" discussion, something that was not meant to be focus of the thread, here I am specificaly talking about combat balance. Although I agree that spotlight balance is more important than combat balance, I think spotlight depends much more on the DM and...

He just said he would put you on his ignore list. No insults were made. Sent from my SM-G900M using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E Long or short rests? What is better?

It is a recurrent discussion on this forum about the way that short vs long rest classes are balanced. The main problem I see on the discussion is that balancing classes this way makes the game unbalanced unless you follow a very specific short vs long rest ratio (1 long for every 2 short in 5e...

    D&D 5E A better basics

I though you were talking about the Basic Rules released by WotC. If I were to rate classes by easy of use I would rate this way Tier 1- Almost no options. Just go and smash Barbarians and Champion Fighters Tier 2 - Very few options or the need of some small tatical thinking. Also clerics and...

    D&D 5E A better basics

The intention of the basic rules is not for it to be easier to play than the PHB. It is a kind of demo version that brings the most traditional classes with it's most traditional archetypes (Simple Fighter, Thief Rogue, Blaster Wizard and Healer Cleric). Sent from my SM-G900M using EN World...

D&D 5E My tweak to make (Champion) Fighters decent

Where the :):):):) those numbers are coming from. At 11th the modifiers would be +5 and dueling would be applied. Fighter at 11th deals 1d8+5(str)+2(dueling) per attack. That averages 11.5. 11.5x6= 69 + 5d10(Superioty Dice)= 69+27.5 = 96.5 And the paladin deals 2d8+5+2+4d8=34x2=68 + 4d6...

D&D 5E My tweak to make (Champion) Fighters decent

Agree with most what you said but you're the 1st person I ever saw complementing Indomitable. 1 reroll of a saving throw per long rest is a terrible ability and is really far from being strong (Just compare it to paladin aura or monks proficiency in all saves). Rerolling a save with no extra...

    D&D 5E MultiClass Question Fighter- Ranger/Paladin

Barbarian is certantly your best option. You already use medium armor, so that would lead to no loss of armor class, and the resistances will help a lot in maintaining your HP. But it comes with the cost of a slower progression latter. I don't really like delaying the 2nd extra attack, but it...

    D&D 5E MultiClass Question Fighter- Ranger/Paladin

There is not that much distance between fighters and barbarians. The main difference is that one fight with instinct and rage, and the other fights with discipline and technique. Is not weird for someone to have a mix between both. Just talk a little to your DM and try to arrange with him...

D&D 5E What class fills the tank role best? Fighter, Barbarian, Cleric or Paladin?

Just in case you did not notice, that comment you quoted is almost two years old. Someone necroed this thread

    D&D 5E Two-Weapon Fighting alteration

My fix for TWF is this Base TWF stays without changes TWF Fighting Style = When you take the attack action while wielding one melee light weapon on both hands, you can make 1 additional attack with your other weapon for each attack you do as part of your action. The damage of the additional...

    D&D 5E The Fighter Problem

The only statement about the design of fighter made by Mike Mearls I known of talks about how its subclasses fail to tell a story. It has nothing to do with the class power levels. He was just trying to say that the class felt too generic, and that was something he regreted. That is also the...

    D&D 5E The Fighter Problem

For those saying that the barbarians, paladins and rangers have more utility. Rangers surely have, they have a lot of abilities and spells for this. But paladins and barbarians don't have much utility. Paladins are still ahead of the fighters (as long we are not talking about EKs). The base...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Sorcerers: Favored Souls, Phoenix Sorcery, Sea Sorcery, & Stone Sorcery

The problem of the bonus spells were that people were complaining that it made the subclass so good that it invalidated the PHB ones. Changing the spell list woul make the subclass to stop competing with the existing ones, as it would have a different function and playstyle.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Sorcerers: Favored Souls, Phoenix Sorcery, Sea Sorcery, & Stone Sorcery

Refluffing is normally under DMs discretion. It is always preferable not having to do it, as something that is allowed in one table is not always allowed in other. While it does not make much mechanical difference by using a spear or a quarterstaff other than the damage type , I can easily see a...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Sorcerers: Favored Souls, Phoenix Sorcery, Sea Sorcery, & Stone Sorcery

They also lost medium armor and shield. People like options. I for example find silly the image of using a staff one handed. Especially when combined with a shield. Even with the staff being the best option, when I played a favored soul, I used a spear. Extra attack is more effective than...

D&D 5E Giving Fighters nice things...

Fighter flavor is generic on purpose, so you can build an archer and a sword and board warrior with the exact same chassis. One of the regrets that the 5th edition designers say to have, is making both the class and the subclasses generic, and that’s one of the reasons all most recent subclasses...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Sorcerers: Favored Souls, Phoenix Sorcery, Sea Sorcery, & Stone Sorcery

Lots of people would complain if they made Sorcerer's Origins for earth, water, wind and not fire. And at least I prefer the flavor from the phoenix subclass than for dragon one. But I would still prefer a generic name with mentions to phoenixes. EDIT: For some reason I could only see your...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Sorcerers: Favored Souls, Phoenix Sorcery, Sea Sorcery, & Stone Sorcery

Just noticed a problem. If Stone sorcery ever gets released it won't be able to get SCAG cantrips if you're playing by AL as the book where stone sorcery gets released would already be your 2nd book.
