D&D 5E Anything You Miss From Past Editions vs 5E?

The only things I miss from old editions are: slower advancement (months between levels) treasure=xp save or die effects/poisons casting time/interruption (chucking a rock at the guy in the middle of casting a fireball was so much fun). That's pretty much it.

    D&D 5E So who is playing 5E?

Our old 3e group re-formed after almost a decade. We're going through Hoard of the Dragon Queen (and loving it!).

    D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

Note that I didn't read the entire review as I'm currently playing the adventure, but I have to say that our DM must be a genius because so far we've been having a blast. The dragon attack was tense (the DM really sold his "random" breath weapon targets) and when our monk critted with his...

D&D 5E What's one thing that pleasantly surprised you, and one thing that disappointed you about the PHB?

One pleasant surprise: Distinctively shaped coin art. Awesome. One disappointment: Still trying to make Tiefling "Virtue" names a thing. (edit: actually, they don't even bother me. Just "Weary". That one annoys me.)

D&D 5E What class is your first 5e character?

My Rogue hit level 3 last night and the decision on what sub-class to go into is *killing* me. Leaning Assassin for RP reasons, but the other two choices look so appealing and fun as well. Spoiled for choice.

D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen: As it Turns out, it's Pretty Good (so far)

When I read the OP's description of his character, I honestly said to myself that if someone rolls into this thread and tells him his feat choice sucks that it's time for me to take another extended rest from these forums. So good gaming and have a wonderful holiday season!

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

So 14 pages in, it looks like banning multi-classing would go a long way toward 'break-proofing' 5e.

D&D 5E How many of your campaigns ACTUALLY ever get to 20th level?

Let's see, in chronological order (and with my old person memory): AD&D: ended up around 16th level. After we killed lolth and took over her ship. Good place to stop. Basic/expert: only got to about twelfth level there. 2e: never really got above tenth. It was the early nineties and there were...

    D&D 5E Elves subrace?

Or wait for the inevitable feat.

D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen Adventure - Will you run/play it?

Yes, definitely. I'm taking a break from behind the DM screen for the first time in a few years and our new DM is ready to run it in three weeks (after we wrap up the starter set adventure---or "pre season" as we're calling it).

    D&D 5E Bracers of Defense

    Quoting for emphasis.

D&D 5E What are you going to keep from previous editions/other d20 games?

If this isn't an option in the DMG, I'm seriously considering bringing back gp=xp. It's one of my favorite old school rules. Edit: of course recalculating the xp tables prevents me from really exploring this too deeply at the moment. I kind of miss the 4e rule where failed death saves...

D&D 5E Why play a pact blade warlock?

[edit: taking down the snark level and getting the hell out of this thread. My apologies.]

D&D 5E Why play a pact blade warlock?

Hey that's me! My concept is inspired by Elric, and I envision a doomed hero whose powers seem more like curses, wielding a hungry blade for a demon benefactor he both serves and despises. I can't see why this wouldn't be a perfect fit for a pact warlock.

Oh that list is beautiful. Time to start a Book Club.

    D&D 5E Finally

And I officially rescind my "I don't know if I can make my ideal character in 5e" statement. Also, woot!

    D&D 5E Feats / Multiclassing

This right here. But I'm planning on taking a long hard look at the feats section before I allow them, for the same reason.

D&D 5E Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

And given the fact that feats are optional and at the DM's discretion, making them superior to a +2 could annoy players whose DM doesn't want them in their game. A DM like me, for instance.

D&D 5E Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

Honestly, this is the only reading of the feat that makes sense to me, and is the one I'm using at my table.
