    Essential Essentials

You totally missed the point completely. Emartial classes have an extremely limited amount of tactical options to choose from. They get one extremely small pool of tricks/stances/ whatever to pick from throughout their entire career. The options available never change from 1-30. They're...

    Essential Essentials

Inconsistency is a bad thing when it starts adding needless complexity and classes that don't function well towards design, though. Also, when it sacrifices game balance, which is one of the primary design goals of the system. I'm all for new and shiny, as long as it functions well at what it is...

    Essential Essentials

The Executioner performs well at its given role as a striker. The Vampire doesn't do anything well in particular except survivability. So, it'll be the last one to die because monsters have no reason to care about it. It just has no purpose mechanically speaking. It's like the 3e bard. Ok at a...

    Essential Essentials

HoS is not an "Essentials" product. It does follow Essentials design, though... mostly. Essentials design isn't really well defined either, though. The Mage, for example, is largely unchanged from the PHB1 design, except for a few minor details. It's really just a new build for the Wizard. The...

    Essential Essentials

I never said they weren't viable. It just seems that they've been deemed non worthy of being versatile and dynamic. They're back to being linear, and that's very disturbing. They've also been deemed non worthy of compatibility with their PHB1 counterparts. Also, they've been returned to one...

    Essential Essentials

My main problem with the Essentials design is that it embraces the "Wizards rule, Fighters drool" philosophy that I hated so much in previous editions. The Mage is a very dynamic and diverse class, while the Slayer and Knight are very cookie cutter with very few real choices. Not to mention that...

D&D 5E What needs to be fixed in 5E?

I think it makes the game seem more dynamic. Everything is built so that anyone can contribute without having to climb the ivory tower. I also like the fact that they (until Essentials) eliminated needing to learn a bunch of different sub systems within the system. Everything worked under...

D&D 5E What needs to be fixed in 5E?

Because said Fighter is in combat for about 1 minute 30 seconds of a 24 hour period actually in combat. The daily power represents the big opening that he finally spots for a finishing blow. It's a narrative tool. I'd rather them keep game balance as a primary design goal, to ensure that...

Where are you buying Mordenkainen's Magnificient Emporium?

As there is no FLGS within 50 miles of me, I have no choice but to order online. If WotC doesn't want to support those of us that don't have an FLGS, I won't be supporting them. Voted not buying it if it isn't available online. Not to mention the prices you have to pay at brick and mortar. Just...

    Monte Cook back at wizards

3e relied on minis just as much as 4e. They're both very similar in combat mechanics. Both use minis for the same purposes. 3e needs them for range, movement, AoO's, AoE's, zones, terrain, flanking, size, etc. The same reasons that 4e uses them. The main difference is that 4e utilizes forced...

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

When consequences for not following a rule can be disasterous, that rule needs to be spelled out in detail. Otherwise, it's just bad design. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

No, they really didn't. Alignment would need to be faaaaar more detailed than they are. Especially in the case of Paladins, since the mechanical implications of not following it explicitly will make the character unplayable. What I mean, is something like how Palladium did alignment. It was a...

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

This is what I don't get. Why does your sheet have to say "Lawful Neutral"? Instreallyead of you just playing a character that you would interpret as such. I always hated alignment, and felt it hurt roleplay rather than help it. Especially since it was never really spelled out what each...

Which Essentials class do you like the most?

I like the Blackguard a lot. It's the toughest striker there is, and manages to be a competent one, too. I want to try a Blackguard /Fighter/Dreadnought. That would basically end up with the DM constantly yelling "Why won't you die?!!!". Good times :) Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

    Scoundrel Rogue Playtest Up

Noone is forcing you to use this. Personally, nothing in the article is worth anything except for the clarification of RWT. The rest is arbitrary nerfs on powers that don't break the game. Seriously, the fact that they're doing this rather than support classes that desperately need it is very...

What are the best classes for each role in 4th edition?

Actually, a tiefling or genasi pyromancer can give a Sorcerer a sad face when it comes to aoe damage. :)

    Scoundrel Rogue Playtest Up

It's not that strong. It is still substantially weaker than Artful Dodger or Brutal Scoundrel. Sure, it's stronger than Ruthless Ruffian, but that is just terrible. Stealth is easy to get without CS.

    Battle Cleric Options is up

The Ossassin has needed to not suck longer than the Runepriest has needed to not suck. :P The Artificer has needed support longer than both, though.

    newbie question about starter paladin

Why are you taking STR powers as a CHA paladin? If you only have 12 STR, you shouldn't even be looking at powers based on it. MBA isn't even worth it, as you get an at-will that can be used as an MBA that is CHA based (Ardent Strike).
