I agree. With a few tweaks, Tyranny of Dragons could easily have been a re-imagining of the War of the Lance. It shares so many similarities it's kind of astonishing.

Make the others "help" instead of attempting individual checks. That's what I do.

And how well does it work for disrupting their concentration?

I'm guessing they'll expand the available magic items, primarily. Maybe add in traps and hazards.

I'm disappointed that they just added some music. I really think this would have been better sold if they'd had a voice-over telling us exactly what we're looking at. Sure, I can extrapolate from what's going on on the screen, but sometimes I don't know where I'm supposed to be looking and so...

DMZ2112 Do your combats really run hours? That's what I'm loving more than anything else in 5E -- good or bad, a fight is over in 20 minutes, tops.

The best way to end these shenanigans is to hit the wizard. Hard. Once concentration drops, the spell ends and the banished creature gets right back in the action.

I think it's just something to marvel over without any real game impact. Maybe introduce players to the idea of creating items out of unusual materials (ironbark, mithril, etc). "Oh, look, a stick." "Hmm. It's lighter than it looks." "Cool! How much can we sell it for?"

I don't have access to the list of abilities that modify CR, but a thumbnail version of a level 5 ranger in my campaign based solely on the chart('s picture on my phone)... Defensive CR: 1/2, boosted to 2 for his AC. Offensive CR: 3, not boosted. Final CR: 2.5, rounded up to 3. Seems close...
