    Happy Birthday Monte CooK!

Indeed, a Big Happy Birthday to The Man, and wishing you well in your year ahead in all you do.

How is savage tide path shaping up?

Well, I'll break with the pack. Background: I am playing Shackled City right now, I collected Age of Worms with the idea of running it, and am doing the same with Savage Tides. I am enjoying SCAP, albeit we are playing the book not the Dungeon modules. I like the fact that you get to see...

Touch spells: were they always like this?

Indeed I would go so far as to say that of the many RPGs that I have played over the years, D&D3.X is the only one to give explicit consideration of this matter [touch versus normal armour class]. I know that I really miss the concept when playing Earthdawn for example, or Ars Magica.

    Eberron help adventure idea.

Don't leave us in suspense Crothy! Tell us: what happened? Inquiring minds want to know.

How much do you want dungeon crawls?

Yeah, but what about when playing D&D, Hong? We know what you like in RL. :p

What are the top 10 elements of a Conan adventure?

I would also point out that along with the scantily clad women, Conan seems to lose his own clothes pretty often in the fighting and running, often being reduced to belt and loincloth. Read into it what you will...

    Eberron help adventure idea.

Well the ending of GotEC involves a very surprising entity. Since it wasn't incorporated into the Warforged design, what was used in its place? And is there any sense of connection with that entity? Alternatively they've already met a Chamber watcher. Perhaps there's something else that the...

    Neutral Paladin

People who are ruthless in pursuit of their goals will always end up sliding into Evil. But that doesn't prevent them from following essentially 'good' goals. I suspect they'd argue that if this good end is worthy enough then any means are acceptable to bring it about and preserve it. (Eberron...

You Got Peanut Butter in My Chocolate...D&D and Science-Fiction

Expedition to the Barrier Peaks was a terrible adventure! ;) Actually that adventure is to me exactly how not to add sci-fi elements. It's an arbitrary mish-mash that really breaks the feel of the game to me. I prefer settings to add tech elements from the get-go, so the interaction and...

Are your campaigns mysteries, or puzzles?

I suspect that often what I write up as a Puzzle ends up after the ending to feel like a Mystery to the players. I suspect that any time you end up having to explain things OOC you've produced an unintentional Mystery :(

    Dragonmarked

A Cannith Artificer specialising in Elemental Binding, and an Orien courier? Between tehm tehy all have a reason to work together. And don't forget that there's always the milieu of The Twelve - the research and development corporation set up by all the Dragonmarked Houses. These people are...

Eric Noah, stay out of this thread. Everybody else, hop on in.

ENWorld - in earlier incarnations - was where I learned about this new version of D&D - and learned how to play it! Now the place is a home-away-from-home, the second place I check online every day, and where I find a group of like-minded (and not so like-minded!) fellow gamers, willing to spend...

    Warforged an resurrection

The price of being a fully-developed killing machine is a one-shot life. Once you're gone, you're gone. Then again, since the Juggernaut is basically seeing himself as a tool, a machine, perhaps wanting to come back is the wrong attitude. If you were destroyed (not killed of course!) achieving...

Answer me these Eberron questions three...

Well good luck with the game DM_Jeff! (1) Keith has always held out for there not to be official pronunciations for Eberron names. But he has said that in his won campaign, the locals called Cyre SEE-ree, whereas the Karrns called it SIRE, etc. Basically go with what your players feel...

Do close friends make less-effective players?

I've been very lucky to do the vast majority of my role-playing with friends, over many years. And in all that time I haven't found that friendship caused any problems with the authority of the DM. Indeed the only problem I have ever seen is the (sort of) opposite, of being reluctant to tell a...

[Eberron] I think (dual wielding wands)

Yup, it's the Cannith Wand Adept in Sharn:City of Towers, representing the training of the Darkwood Wands, the élite magician defenders of Cannith assets. It's a tricky class to get in to, since it requires Wand Mastery, which is generally not taken until 9th level. Regarding the Complete...

    Is Originality important ?

Oh yes, I've been 'caught out' borrowing ideas from other sources! :) But the truth is it's never bothered anyone at all. I think most players understand that DMing is challenging, and looking to others for inspiration is a shrewd idea. Though these days I'd be reluctant to rip off a storyline...

Bluffside - anyone still using it?

I used it in my Shattered World campaign as-is, and the city remains there - they just haven't been back yet. I enjoyed it as a place - as did the player. It has the fun of a setting where you can adventure and get a good night's rest in an hotel! (I emphasised the ruins beneath the city, being...

Is the barbarian too front loaded?

And for that matter don't let them choose their class - let the DM determine it from play. And don't let them talk out of character either. :p It's just handy shorthand word that indicates the player has considered the mechanical aspects of the character.

    Complexity of Magic Systems

Actually, klofft, you needed in your poll to distinguish the Wizard approach to prepared casting, versus, say, the Cleric. A Wizard can be hellishly fiddly for a newcomer. After all a Wizard has three steps in getting a spell out. First the spell must be learned - which may well mean acquiring...
