For item creation purposes specifically, i.e. there may be spells others are taking that you aren't but you might want a scroll or potion with it. For example... I specifically didn't take magic missile as a spell... Mikkanna just isn't an "offensive" wizard at all. But she might find it useful...

Going for Geometer first actually required a serious skill change for Mikkanna. With two cross class skill requirements (i.e. disable device and search at 4 ranks each) as well as needing both decipher script and knowledge (arcana) at 9 ranks each she's kind of more focused now, lol.
