Conan The RPG: Impressions + Ideas & GM Support

A few things: First, thanks for pointing me to Scarlet_Blades, Iron_Chef. Nice site. :) The reason I'm not posting more in this thread is because I'm not ready to run Conan yet. I have it penciled in after my current campaign, which could still be some time down the road (6 months to a year!)...

    One inch Grid

Save your money and get one if at all possible. I am almost aghast to think what our D20 games would be like without a Chessex Megamat. I think I can honestly say that there is no RPG product I've gotten more value out of for the price.

    Why don't you buy modules?

I don't have the time or even the energy to create NPC's and locations for my group to explore. I concentrate on the inter-relationships between them and the NPC's. When it's time for them to go exploring, that's when I will slip in a premade adventure. Naturally, I will modify alot of stuff to...

    Conan/Berserk/Warcraft: Share the Love

I just ordered the D20 Conan book from Amazon (sorry guys, the thought of sharing the love with community people never occurred to me :( ). I will say that I was offered to sign up for an Amazon Visa card, which I did. Along with it came an immediate credit of $30. Since the Conan D20 book...

    Release date for Conan d20?

Thanks for the link, yipwyg. I went ahead and preordered it. Oh, and I also took advantage of their Amazon.com Visa card, which gives you a $30 promotional coupon on any orders of $30 or more. I couldn't help but notice that Conan was $31.47. That means that I just got a $45 book for $1.47. And...

Tell players target save DCs or let them sweat?

I always tell my players what AC they need - just one less thing I have to worry about. I write out the AC on the Battlemat. Now, for checks of opening locks and disabling traps, I am a bit more close-mouthed.

    BOEF vs. BORF

While I uphold the right to make such a product, I doubt I am going to buy it now. I don't need rules on erotica - and fade to black works fine for RPG sex in my campaigns.

    I am the anti-preparation DM

If I'm running a preset adventure, I stick to it. But when I'm not constrained by it, I usually wing-it. I like it because it allows me to be receptive to how the players affect the world.

What did you do with your old D&D rulebooks?

What's old is still new.... We are not making the switch to 3.5, as we all have too much tied up in 3e products, so my 3e books still get plenty of use. My 2e stuff is in attic storage, except for anything Birthright or Planescape.

The Concept Is... he DOESN'T use a sword.

Thanks man! My wife thanks you too. :)

The Concept Is... he DOESN'T use a sword.

She is in her late thirties, and has 4 kids. She's a little thick around the middle and the other characters call her "Mom" (proper name is Gertrude). One character in the party is her son, which leads to some pretty fun in-game conversations as you may guess. I probably should dock her some...

The Concept Is... he DOESN'T use a sword.

My wife's character, a female, past-her-prime fighter/inkeeper (yep), uses a Greathammer. I treat it just like a greataxe only with bludgeoning instead of slashing damage type. Always was curious why they never had this weapon in the original 3.0 rulebook (whether it's in 3.5 I don't know).

If you campaign had introductory text a la Star Wars..

Yep, well done, Meepo. By the way, I actually did this with a mini-Scarred Lands campaign I did. I rounded up alot of images from the various SL books, copied them and organized them 2-3 on paper. I then wrote little quotes underneath, either as "the movie trailer narrotor guy" or the NPC's...

Anyone have "Torn Asunder" from Bastion Press yet?

Cool, thanks for the info, guys. I'll have to check it out.

Anyone have "Torn Asunder" from Bastion Press yet?

Just wondering if anyone has been able to get ahold of "Torn Asunder" yet, from Bastion. It is a set of optional rules you can use for critical hits and fumbles. Anyone?

    Arcana Unearthed: Pro's and Con's

If AU had been more of a generic variant player's handbook, I may have bought it. But when it comes right down to it, I don't dig on cat people, dog people, etc. as characters. It seems like the book is very tied to Diamond Throne setting, which sounds interesting, but is definitely not for me...

[OT] Herb Brooks dead. Sad day USA

A very sad day. I remember the "Miracle" fondly, too. I am a Pens fan as well, so it's a double hit. But there is a lesson here, actually... WEAR YOUR DAMN SEATBELT! :(

    best battlemat?

Hey there, Mark. :) Having bought some WW stuff, I figured I'd weigh in on this. When you buy your sets at WorldWorks, Denny included terrain sheets with them. For the CastleWorks set, he includes entire sheets of grass, dirt, or hybrids. He then gives you tips on mounting them. Kengar did a...

I mailed back my 3.5 D&D books for a refund today...

That's a good one. I'll have to tell my group when we reconvene for D&D after our short hiatus that we are now officially playing with relics. 3 year old relics, but relics nontheless.

    Chicago Area FLGS

My friend and I were staying in Downtown (Michigan Ave.), and we left right after I got out of my seminar for the day - around 5:00. It took us between 45 minutes to an hour to get there with traffic. It was a little better on the way back, traffic not as bad. Having said that....IT'S WORTH IT...
