Magus' Excel 2007 Initiative Tracker DM Tool

Hey everyone, I’d like to share something I whipped up in Excel 2007 to help track initiative in combat and keep track of PC defenses, skill mods, and ability mods. It has two sheets, one for the initiative table (“InitTable”) and one as a roster of combatants (“Combatants”). A macro (called...

    Making your own power cards

Well, there's one thing you can do but it might be a pain in the rear: create a new PPT file with 8.5x11 dimensions (or that of whatever paper you'll be using) and then group, copy, and paste each set of elements making a Grandpa card into the new sheet. Do this so you have 8 sets (cards) and...

Normal to Lower Level Elite Conversion

    Makes sense. Thanks for explaining.

Stalker0's Obsidian Skill Challenge System (Update: Version 1.1) Now with PDF!!

A week from today I'll be running my 3rd Obsidian skill challenge and I wanted to share the plan in case of useful feedback beforehand or just to give others ideas. I'll update after the fact as well. Setup: The party is going to the site of a lumber camp destroyed by goblins of the Wolfskull...

Normal to Lower Level Elite Conversion

Just curious as to why not. Normally, lowering level by 4 lowers damage by 2 (half), and making a Normal into an Elite does not up damage. You've made an explicit choice not to do this, and I'd be interested to learn your reasoning.

    Trapped locks?

    Thanks for these great ideas!

    Trapped locks?

I don't see anything in the DMG for the classic trapped lock, you know the sort found on a chest or door, where commonly a poison needle sticks you while you're working at picking it. Can anyone point me to either something in the RAW that directly or indirectly may apply, or any posts in the...

Help me come up with a bunch of one sentence generic PC backgrounds.

Bob the fighter has brown eyes but is heterozygous, with one allele for blue eyes and one for brown, and could thus bear blue-eyed children. Sarah the ranger has the Apolipoprotein E epsilon 4 allele associated with increased risk of Alzheimer's, but given her choice of profession probably will...

    New stealth stuff from WotC

I know this is getting into House Rule territory, but I'd like a way for a rogue (maybe others) to do stuff like get their back up against a 5' column and have superior cover to try and achieve stealth rather than just saying "well, you're in this square and I can draw these lines so you don't...

    New stealth stuff from WotC

I think this is meant to be a strength of Deft Strike, because you keep the advantages of being hidden until the action is resolved. If you had to use a move action and then attack, I'd argue that you are no longer hidden either at some point during or upon ending that move action (which of the...

    Making your own power cards

Okay, here's what I have so far. Notice I use purple to avoid confusion with powers or items (red, green, black, gold). I've tried stealing/making some iconic images. I'll work on the rest later, but if anyone wants to improve on these and post feel free, especially anyone good with the...

    Making your own power cards

Using Grandpa's templates as a start, I made just a few condition cards. Pretty plain, although for total defense I found a simple black on white line art image of a shield and for that card put the text (+2 to all defenses until the start of your next turn) inside the shield. I think it would...

    Basic Melee Attacks

It's all a balance of strategerie. Brutal scoundrel is better at baseline melee making OAs. Artful dodger is better at avoiding OAs and moving opponents so he can get combat advantage for big bonuses. I don't think the Artful dodger needs help competing with the Brutal Scoundrel.

    Bodies = Difficult Terrain?

Let 'em matter when they matter, I say I don't think there are RAW specifically on whether dead bodies affect terrain. I'm soon going to run a fight that occurs in a clearing where a battle has recently taken place, with many dead bodies, and my plan is to abstract the humanoid bodies and call...

    Making your own power cards

Just a word to the wise: if you find that putting card images in columns makes the 2nd and subsequent columns shift the image down one line so that it's not aligned at the top with the 1st column card, you can instead create a table that spans the page and has the number of columns (and rows of...

Stalker0's Obsidian Skill Challenge System (Update: Version 1.1) Now with PDF!!

Hey Stalker, looking at the errata that just came out and their very low DCs, I was just wondering whether in your Obsidian system it would be feasible to have lower DCs across the board but increase the number of successes required for partial and full victory. I'm not saying you should change...

You do mean lowercase "m"s, right? ;)

Lots of statistics from the Monster Manual

Since various people are taking these data and reporting different analyses from them, perhaps there could be a Wiki entry on this so that instead of sifting through the thread one could check out the entry. Someone asked about a PDF/DOC before but if people continue to add interesting stuff to...

    Making your own power cards

Very nice! The potion icon makes me think more of alchemy or chemistry (bubbling beaker) than end-product magic potion, which I would expect not to have wide base and to have a cork or other stopper, but I like it a lot nonetheless.
