    Rituals Designs

The only problem I have with using healing surges as the "fuel" for rituals is the Class & Constitution based number of surges favors classes that we don't traditionally think of using them. We need some form of expendable resource directly tied to the character, that is ideally associated with...

    Ranger (Archer) interesting feat choices?

I have a Human Ranger (Hunter) with the additional at-will option. I took Nimble Strike and then took the Harrowing swarm student feat to give me the option of adding a -2 debuff (rattling) to my target. Hunters are great, but sometimes I don't want to slide/prone the enemy. Having the option to...

Do you track the date? The phases of the moon? The weather? Holidays?

In my campaigns (usually Dragonlance) we track all 3, especially the moons as Wizards of High Sorcery have power fluctuations based upon the lunar cycles. And its not just 1 moon, but 3, and when they align extra benefits happen. Makes for messy housekeeping but its part of the setting we love...

    Assassin, Battlemind, and Vampire

I see. Agreed. That is a lame situation for the Battlemind to be put in if the DM constantly has the monsters move, then attack. Our BM didn't have that problem too often due to the way our battles played out. When it did, It got kind of messy and annoying. The player would switch tactics and...

    Assassin, Battlemind, and Vampire

The battlemind's mindspike is just like any other defender's "obey-the-mark" class feature: You hit my buddy, take some damage. With the battlemind, its actually pretty brutal and IMHO, one of the few marks that DM's will always have their monsters obey. First, you don't have to roll to hit...

    New DM Tabletop Question

You can occasionally find large lots of minis on eBay, sometimes for cheap, especially sets of commons. A good set of similar minis can also serve double or triple duty: my lolthbound goblins serve as kobolds, norkers, and any other small humanoid.

5th Edition and the Female Demographic

If a designers could capitalize on the Twilight license, many women I know would buy the game no matter what was in the box. Actually getting them to play might be another story. I think the upcoming Hunger Games movie could do a lot to generate interest. If you haven't read them, they are...

What happened to the RPG database?

I liked using it because it allowed you to search for a product and see every design/author credit, then click on the author and see everything else they worked on. It was pretty handy, to me at least. . .

What happened to the RPG database?

Did the RPG database that used to be hosted at pen-paper.net get moved somewhere else? Is there an alternative?

How many different ways are there to be hurt?

Abrasion (road rash) - not sure how often this might come up but it is probably one of the most common real world physical injuries. Desiccation/Dehydration - whether through lack of drinking or through chemical or magical effect.

Can Campaigns based on books be successful?

In my experience, this is why most campaigns based upon books fail, not due to any railroading aspect. The dreaded combination of someone new to the setting paired with a complete canon fanatic at the same table has caused most of my DL games to implode. And this has played out not only in...

I don't know what just happend, but it seems that Ayn Rand corrupted my player!

If the players at your table all wanted a reload feature, how would you rule?

I don't know what just happend, but it seems that Ayn Rand corrupted my player!

Sorry some of my peepee wound up in your cheerios. I'm also sorry if my hacked metaphor offended, but you know what I was trying to say, you just chose to attack the wrapper. But let me explain: By Capitalism, I meant private ownership. You, as DM, believe you OWN the game, simply because you...

I don't know what just happend, but it seems that Ayn Rand corrupted my player!

Sure are a bunch of Capitalist DMs here. DM as employer, players as employees? No thanks, I get enough of that at work. I guess I'm more of a socialist. DM and players work together to decide what kind of game we want to play, since this IS a social game first and foremost.

    Dropping a shield

LOL. In real life, I sit at a table and play make believe with dice. :p But I agree, strapping & unstrapping is cumbersome (rules-wise!), especially when it gets in the way of me being able to immediately convert my shield to a giant frisbee of death as a free action.

Provide an example of when FLUFF overrided > Crunch

Enemy wizard had a ring of water walking on and was attacking our boat while "standing" on a lake. Player used a spell to create a large wave (can't remember how) and the DM ruled the enemy wizard was "crushed by the wave" and took much damage.

Owning multiple copies of RPG books

I own a few duplicates: * MWP's Dragonlance Towers of High Sorcery (bought one, found one for $15 at my FLGS) * The original AD&D Deities & Demi-Gods (bought one edition with the legal deities, then found an original with the illegal deities.) * And somehow I would up with 3 copies of AD&D D1-2...

    Dice Towers

Wow, these are really nice. One question though? Do your players still shake the dice in their hands 100 times before dumping them in the tower?

    Attacking while climbing ?

Yup. The DM's who care will recognize it as a problem and adjust for it. The rest of us could care less. The OP just needs to figure out which camp he's in, then act accordingly.
