D&D (2024) The Two Forgotten Realms Books Were Not Finalized At Their Announcement, Artificer & Species Could Still Be For It

Putting the Artificer in the FR campaign books would strike me as very strange. MotM covered most of FR's popular races, so I think it would be a waste of valuable space to reprint the likes of Genasi in it. I'm sure it will have a player section, and hopefully they'll put a few interesting...

D&D (2024) Wizards have a problem with Spellcasting stat blocks

I think I would have prefered that they build the statblock with the spelled-out expected spell usage (similar to the MotM version), then use a sidebar to do a full caster spell list for those times when you want to use them outside of a direct fight. If you want further variety, maybe have a...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

It is nice to have as much of the compatible stuff all in one area though, rather than trying to hit a dozen different web sites and publishers hoping you know they exist.

D&D 5E What does it mean when a Web spell is "layered across a floor, wall, or ceiling?"

Hmmm. Rereading the full text, it sounds like if you have anchor points it's going to fill 20 wide x 20 long x 20 high. If you layer it, it creates an area 20 wide x 20 long x 5 high.

D&D 5E "Surrender or Die" Roared the Barbarian - Making the Opponents Surrender

That's fine for the DM to have those sort of things in mind, and act on them as part of their strategy. This is primarily for the players to push an opponent back out of the fight (flee, surrender or otherwise submit) on the player's terms, not at the will or whim of the DM.

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

I'm somewhat dubious about that percent and where that number supposedly came from. Trying to tie down the actual number of D&D players is no easy task.

D&D 5E "Surrender or Die" Roared the Barbarian - Making the Opponents Surrender

I am of the opposite opinion, of course. Leaving morale up to DM fiat doesn't work for me, speaking as an eternal DM. I'd rather have a system the players can initiate if they choose and a standardized system. I can modify the chances on the fly based on the situation, but I need a sturdy...

D&D 5E "Surrender or Die" Roared the Barbarian - Making the Opponents Surrender

Fights to the death. Enemies who never give up until they they're out of hit points. Sometimes, it's a bit annoying. So I'm strongly considering this optional rule, and I'm curious to see what others think of it. Once a sentient opponent is reduced to half hit points (bloodied) or less, you...

    D&D (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

My main reason for wanting them to do the remaining settings is so that it is opened up on the DM's Guild and others can openly put forth their own spin on it. As with Micah, I don't trust WotC to do old campaign settings justice after the last couple ones.

D&D 5E Lycanthrope Player Characters - How Would YOU Do It?

Same for me here. In Ravenloft it'd be curse you don't want to hang around, possibly involving Dark Gifts and a slide for control by the DM. For my own main homebrew though, I'd start with the Shifter race (or Lycans, as they're called in mine - they actually have their own homeland) with...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Wow, I'd always thought too that penultimate was "bestest of the best" too, not "second to last"

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

That would also include giants and medusas too, which have a long history of immunity to charm/hold person. Though, I've long wondered why giants weren't just Large/Huge/Gargantuan Humanoids - or honestly Humanoid (Giant).

    D&D 5E What's on your 5E 3rd Party Essential List?

These aren't books I use at every session, but I do incorporate a lot into game: Monster Manual I-III Expanded, Tome of Beasts I-III, Creature Codex, Dragonix's Deadly Denizens, Tome of Horrors Tome of Heroes Vault of Magic, Griffon's Saddlebag Local Legends: Taverns Game Master's Book of NPCs

This is just more and more reasons for me to stay clear of 2024.

    D&D (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

Yeah, the non-seriousness of it and the art style I think turned quite a few folks off. I have the copy Beyond gave out, but I've only browsed it but never used it because of the tone, so I can't comment on the mechanics.

    D&D (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

Y'know, one thing I'd really enjoy is if they collected all the monsters up from the various modules and put them up in a single book. I REALLY don't want another reprint of Volos/Mords/Multiverse - two goes at it are enough already.

    D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Aberrations & Oozes Video

Basically, 3E templates are back. I don't know how I feel about that. Saves space, but makes more work for the DM to prep the monsters.

    D&D (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

Dark Sun and Birthright, but only if they treat it pretty much like they did Curse of Strahd and not Van Richten's guide or Spelljammer. I'd also like to see the return of short adventures - in the 28 page or so range. Something you can run in a night or three.

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+]

I misread that as read magic, and as I've been going through my own revisions I've been thinking about bringing read magic back to decipher scrolls, command words and other magical writings (including safely detecting and analyzing things like glyphs of warding without setting them off). Have...
