    Doppelgangers +4LA? Is wotc crazy?

NPCs can have ECLs/LA and a bbeg can be an NPC, not only monsters, so I must disagree on these points. ECL and LA are just as applicable to NPCs as to PCs, not sure why you wouldn't think so. As for Simulcrum, most have marked his unusual vehemence against the LA for the Doppleganger. Its...

    Doppelgangers +4LA? Is wotc crazy?

ROFLMAO, if the D has gotten to this point then the D has already failed. Your grasp of the D is obviously flawed. Sounds like someone had a BBEG that got squished before those precious plots got finished and plunged the campaign into darkness to me. Shouldn't take it out on the D ya know. As...

    Doppelgangers +4LA? Is wotc crazy?

Simulcrum, way off base dude, not cool. Sure the drow assassin is pretty nasty but a doppleganger will pose as an officer and have a small army hunt him down like the dog he is.

Any advice for running a Swashbuckling Sea-going Campaign?

Starting up a new campaign to be run in-between times for our group's current DM. Any words of wisdom from those who've experienced such campaigns? I've never played or run one before. Here's the skinny: Pirate's of the Fallen Stars: Dark Tidings Setting: Forgotten Realms, Sea of Fallen Stars...

    Prestige Classes in your game

With the 3.5 classes for the first time in years I have players saying things like: "Forget that PrC, I'm going full Ranger! or...full Druid!", etc. I think whetehr its core or PrC doesn't matter so much anymore just depends on what you want to do, it's all more or less equal now. Before I...

Ring of Counterspells vs. area spells?

Fireball is an area effect and does not target you. Ring of counterspells will not counter it. edit- personally my mage used to have a ring of CSs & put feeblemind in there as a "just in case". Hehe, it had happened once before and the party just about got hashed. Baneful polymorph would be...

Contingency - what can it do?

IME, both Aura's & Jhyrryl's interp is off (what we're seeing here is both ends of the spectrum). Aura's is too limited by the spellcaster's perceptions and Jhyrryl's is too powerful, the clause too broad. My guess is somewhere between these two positions you'll find the best use of Contingency...

Contingency - what can it do?

So are we saying that a caster who cast contingency: If I fall cast featherfall but the caster was asleep or enthralled in illusion thinking he was not falling, that the contingency may not go off?? Oh dear, someone get a cleric...

    Question about Elf Trance

I think the real question here is why does a ring of Sustenance that requires the spells Create food & water have any affect on the wearer's Sleep at all? Shouldn't it just mean that the wearer just doesn't have to eat or drink as much??

    Improved/Greater Combat Reflexes

Agreed. But what kind of requirements do these bad puppies have?

D&D 5E Help me w/the next Feat for my rogue/fighter...

Combat Reflexes and Improved Feint. You'll only be getting one attack per round anyway at low level. Might as well use that extra move action while in combat to Feint and give you that sneak attack as well. Plus it works great with the whole dextrous, acrobatic fighter type. Ducking weaving...

    Experience penalties

That's correct, according to the example in the phb. So AuraSeer's example point is correct, the character's abilities are spread so thin this character would be unable to progress in levels except by a wish spell or some such magic to raise or remove one of the other classes.

    Experience penalties

Nothing has changed, always has been that a level difference of two or more exorts a XP penalty. You folk with your funky memories eh? ;) (I bet the way it was worded originally as 2 or more prob is the culprit behind all this...)

    Experience penalties

You can try playing a [FR] Wood Elf their favored class is ranger. edit- of course you'll have to be part of a special paladin order that allows you to progress as part of a multi-class. Most don't.

    Experience penalties

Yea I looked at the SRD at the last page of the Character Class section where it talks about multi-classing where it should say something. It doesn't. You'll just have to wait until you get a hold of the PHB or just take my word for it I'm afraid. Check out pg. 60 PHB XP for multiclass characters.

    Question about Elf Trance

    1) Not quite like sleep, it is a deep thoughtful reverie or meditation over the days activities and how it relates to the elf's life thus far. Keep in mind though an elf needs only 4 hours of trance a wizard or cleric elf would still need another 4 hours of rest (i.e. relaxing, quiet, etc...
  17. D

    Experience penalties

Nope. Elf favored class is wizard and this class is the only one ignored when conisdering XP penalty. Otherwise all classses beyond the first must remain within ONE level. So 2/3 or 4/5 and so on would be needed to not receivee that XP penalty. Both of your examples would have an XP penalty apply.

How did your favorite Campaign start out?

This is a question for both players and DMs. I'm starting a campaign next week and I just wanted to hear how other campaigns "started". There are several techniques to doing this and I want to hear what you folks out there do, though I do realize the "type'" of campaign will in many ways...

Burning out on best campaign I ever played in

Wow, sorry man but it certainly sounds like this guy is entrenched. Will the other guy go with you when you go? If so two players who up and walk out on the campaign may be a bit of a wake-up call for DM and group. This DM needs to get over himself, so don't worry about him too much, though it...

Burning out on best campaign I ever played in

Doh. Another work-a-holic, detail-oriented, and likely skilled DM lost to the darkside. When the game becomes so important to a DM that he controls the story of the world this closely he's got to take a step back. Ack, yes likely it would be best to discuss this with the other players first and...
