    Trek Ponderings

You are talking about a very undeveloped period of franchising (hence the regrettable star fleet battles) while 'authorised' by paramount it doesn't in anyway make them canon, (see Star Wars novels) I'm in agreement with Ronald Moore on the earlier books, but the later I books I believe to be...

    Trek Ponderings

Remember that Gene also personal read and cleared FASAs Star Trek material, and that included the single nacelle Larson, the most common lay out is two nacelles as per Genes desires, but not all ships conform to that in the show, hence my use of 'tends' So I expect it was a loose rule with him...

D&D 5E Do you care about setting "canon"?

Thats extremes of black and white, all or nothing, and rather unrealistic, So if you like 99% of a setting but not that 1% you would rather not play it instead of fixing that 1%? Try not to throw the baby out with the bath water.... btw, are you one of those guys that has trouble believing...

    Trek Ponderings

There are many single nacelle ships in Star Trek, I doubt that manual was canon, (well, as much canon as star fleet battles is...) Missing the point, point being the theoretical science behind something like warp drive, is valid, No, in the show warp drive looks like the lines of force on a...

D&D 5E Variants I am thinking of trying

Lingering Injuries: idea, once they get to below half hit point, make them make a con saving throw, every time they are hit, if they fail they lose a point off a stat, (let the stats heal slower than hit points)

D&D 5E I'm the DM and a player is trying to abuse the Immovable Rod. Advice?

Two hammers shouldn't be able to pin anything, (pickaxe through a limb to the floor, then yes) 'the monster should be able to wrestle free if pinned, (you sound like an easy going DM, but don't let him run amok, you're in charge) 1) it would be very hard to pin someone without them being...

    Trek Ponderings

The warp field looks more like the lines of force on a magnet, (and yes you tend to need two nacelles, (Gene said you always needed two)) also see, alcubierre drive,

D&D 5E Do you care about setting "canon"?

subjective like someone thought F.A.T.A.L was a good idea, no, most people think Star Wars is better than battlefield earth....subjective? Maybe, see where I'm going here.... but the reverse if you like, what makes what someone wrote better than I wrote? Subjective, so equally valid right...

D&D 5E Do you care about setting "canon"?

But what if your ideas are better than what's written? surely you owe it to your players,

D&D 5E Do you care about setting "canon"?

I'm not a fan of the "Conan' setting...... joke aside, it depends, canon for Star Wars or Star Trek or any other tv or movie based, absolutely for d&d etc not so much, I like poetic license, and if I think I can do it better it changes,

Videogames are boring once you embrace RPG?

So many things I could say on this subject, video game are just an elaborate game of Simon says, you do x to achieve y so compared to the vastness of an rpg it does look rather limited that said my game of choice is gears of war, but I see it more of a team sport that a video game, playing...

    Trek Ponderings

The two hull approach is used by the Federation because the possible threat of an unstable warp core breach (due to damage etc) could quickly destroy the ship, The crew move to the saucer section, and it separates from the rest of the hull on impulse drives, leaving the warp core to explode etc...
