    D&D 4E The 'Big 6' in 4e

Yes, hopefully the big 6 are now a thing of the past. In my games I never gave them out, and I never gave them to NPCs (It made many things much simpler. Our party made it from lvl 1 to lvl 30 with no cleric and no wizard over the course of 3 years of so). I also always hated that a magic...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

I liked the article in Dragon that came out a year or so ago that allowed you to basically turn your staff into a familiar. Unfortunately to make it a truely effective option, the article required you to burn all kinds of feats, XP, spell slots, and gold. Fantastic idea that I was utterly...

    Changes to Devils and Demons

I very much like this change. My players were always very much confused with the differences between Devils and Demons. No matter how I explained it, they still considered the two as basically the same thing. Now it will be easy to make a distinction.

    Other possible power sources

Really, the idea behind Ki is mastering the inner power of one's self. And Psionics are the same thing. I believe these should be folded into a single power "source" that indicates use of personal strength and ability. Psionics and Ki will still be different in the same way that Wizard arcane...

    support for variable magic levels

In my games I never allowed the buying/selling of magic items. They were always special and always had story behind them. Hopefully 4E will do away with the idea of "ye ol' magic shope" While I strongly believe that players should be able to craft magic items (even non-wizards, such as a dwarf...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

This would disappoint me. Familiars need a boost as it is with clear benifits. Even if familiars become an optional ability, the wizard should not be required to sink their talents into their familiar to make it a viable option. Familiars should be interesting and useful out of the box. Not...

    Other possible power sources

All it means is, "Where do these cool-guy abilities come from?" Can a fighter do the amazing things he does because he is a supernatural being (divine power), can he use combat manuevers because he was infused with ancient magic (arcane power), or can he do amazing combat manuevers because he...

    Other possible power sources

It looks to me like you are confusing "source" with "execution". Psionic and Ki are sources of power... but Aura? That is a means of execution (one that can be either arcane or divine, depending on the character). If you are talking about the source being a character's personal energy from...

    "Siloing" Class Abilities

This goes back to the whole "Characters are punished for doing their role" thing. Just because a cleric heals doesn't mean he should suck in combat. Just because a rogue has many social skills doesn't mean you take away his combat ability. Sounds like the wizard is going to be the same way...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

I remembered another familiar that should be a "base" familiar for 4E beholderkin, eyeball From Forgotten Realms. Those little guys rocked!

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

Monster Manual, 3.5 I think there is some in the Book of Exalted Deeds as well.

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

That sounds like a bad idea to me. The end result would be gish chars that ran around fighting with staves. A gish that used a sword would be gimped and the ones that used wands to poke out people's eyes in melee would have the advantage.

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

I very very much like the idea of wands and staves being focus items (instead of charged "spell guns"). I hope the staff/wand dynamic becomes much more intregal to the wizard class. However.... there needs to be a mechanic for focus items that are not staves. My spell wielding elf...

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

Hmm... I wonder what this means? Are shields becoming useful? Are they going to help in ways besides +1 Armor and providing cover?

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

Wow! If 4E combat is going to be that exciting then I'm all for it. A typical 3E battle against goblins and wolves at lvl 1 would have been: I attack. You miss. It attacks. It misses. I attack. It's dead. It's friend attacks. You are dead. Moving opponents around in battle (without AoO...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

I'm betting that the new movie "Golden Compass" coming out this Christmas will be very popular. After seeing that, new players will be clamoring to have familiars like the ones they saw in the movie. Not being able to emulate the cool characters they love will probably be a big letdown for...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

If familiars survive to the new edition, I wonder if they will continue with the old stand-bys (rat, bat, cat). My players were always disappointed when there weren't more interesting options presented out of the box. If they wanted something exotic, they had to wait through months of gaming, as...

    New Playtest up...

He answered that very well. And I'm glad to hear that we will be getting other playtests from groups with more "straight 4e goodness". :D
