My house rules document, looking for input

Hey all, so I just finished up the first real draft of my D&D 3.5 house rules and I'm looking for input. Now, be forewarned that it's 12 page (and one of my goals is to cut it down), but I don't expect people to read all of it. If you want to give a section of it a read and post your thoughts...

    Core Rules Survivor: Round 2

I don't mind the fixed skill DCs. Tends to speed things up a bit, removing the roll from one side (and allowing you to either preroll or not roll at all if you have a high enough skill).

Art from one of the D&D books...

Nope, didn't even know it existed. I am now though, thanks!

    Greater Invis & Sneak Attack

You mean that this rogue, with the help of two fairly high level spells, is able to be almost as effective as a greatsword-wielding barbarian against a far narrower range of opponents? Oh no!

What's the equivalent of Practiced Spellcaster for fighters?

Ah. I think that makes it alright then. Useful for that Fighter who wants to dip a couple levels into arcanist or rogue for whatever reason. Calypso

What's the equivalent of Practiced Spellcaster for fighters?

I don't think I know a rogue or cleric alive that wouldn't take that at least once. Which, IMO, makes it too powerful. Not to mention that, if you can take it, it's better than Weapon Focus. By quite a bit. Calypso

Art from one of the D&D books...

I know this is an odd request (and I didn't know what other forum it might belong in), but... One of the D&D books (core or Forgotten Realms) has a picture. It's black and white and I think it's a profile (shoulders and up) of an old elven man. He's kinda gaunt and has that general "wizard"...

    The Ring of Dragonshape

You can voluntarily lower your CL when creating items, down to the minimum required to cast the prerequisite spells. So in this case, the ring has a CL of 7, despite requiring Forge Ring (and thus CL 12). (Which I suspect you knew already.) Calypso

    The Ring of Dragonshape

Then you have a 23,000gp trinket.

    The Ring of Dragonshape

Young Red and Young Gold dragons both have the same level adjustment (+6). Even if you were to go by CR instead, and use the Red as a baseline, then he could turn into a Very Young Gold. A Young Red and a Very Young Gold both have the same CR (7). Frankly, I don't think it matters enough to...

What Happens When An Entangled Monk Dimension Doors?

I'm actually surprised that Abundant Step allows you to bring people along. But anyway... "You may also bring one additional willing Medium or smaller creature" Both the monk and the target have to be willing. Sorry Big Baddie, no free rides. Calypso

What's the equivalent of Practiced Spellcaster for fighters?

The only reasonable feat I can think of would be one that was like Practiced Spellcaster, but for fighter levels. So a Fighter 4/Wizard 4 could get GWF. That's all it would do. Calypso

What Happens When An Entangled Monk Dimension Doors?

Of course you can, that's the point of Dimension Door, even (especially?) for wizards.

Can a Mount be Surprised When the Rider is Not?

I can't help but feel that, if the rider gets the benefit of the horse, regardless of it being surprised or not, then it shouldn't get a spot roll to begin with. If it truly is just a tool at the complete control of the character, then it shouldn't get a Spot check. It just sounds like the...

    Dimensional Spells

Relevant SRD: "A force effect originating on the Material Plane extends onto the Ethereal Plane, so that a wall of force blocks an ethereal creature, and a magic missile can strike one (provided the spellcaster can see the ethereal target). Gaze effects and abjurations also extend from the...

    Firebrand question (Spell Compendium)

It's not explicit. I'd say the same DC Reflex save halves the secondary damage.

    Firebrand question (Spell Compendium)

? All of the bursts must be within medium range. Any given burst is a 5' radius. Seems pretty clear. Calypso

Is there a recall spell feat?

Not that I know of. The closest I can think of is Alacritous Cogitation in Complete Mage. It allows you to leave a slot empty and cast any spell you know of that level or lower as a full-round action. Combine that with Mordenkainen's Lucubration and you can almost achieve what you want. Calypso

    Polymorphing specialist?

Yeah, that is a nice aspect of it. There'll be a Sorcerer, Paladin, and Cleric. So, plenty of spellcasting to steal. I'll also be able to be a bit of a skill monkey. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to sneak attack things most of the time. Maybe Quicker than the Eye makes sense.

    Polymorphing specialist?

Yep. What I was hoping for was something like the wild-shape variant in PHB2, except for wizards. So that they could change shape as they wanted, and unlock new forms and so forth. Oh well. I think I'm actually gonna go with Spellthief for the character. :D (It'll be a fun challenge...
