Low Damage, High HP ... How is this "Faster"?

The rounds themselves go faster. Instead of having to wait 10-15 minutes for your next turn (something that constantly happens in big battles with characters that have multiple attacks, or long spell lists, etc.), your turn comes back around quicker, allowing you to feel more a part of the...

    Sneak attack while swallowed?

Um.. And is the monster also supposed to be able to shift its organs at will when something it swallowed starts poking swords and daggers through the gullet lining?

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

Actually, part of what you're describing is the Setting, not the System. If I used Gurps for instance, a fantasy setting would have a different feel than a horror setting, even though it's the same system. RP is really system independent. Some systems that supposedly 'promote' RP fall flat...

Was "Bad GM Rulings?", Now Silence spell

Only Clerics and Bards get silence, and a cleric would need to know ahead of time whether she's going to need a silence, really. It's one of those spells that I don't really see a lot of clerics memorizing all the time. It is a good spell, though. No doubt there.

    Lava Rules..

Well, as someone who's actually read the 'Fire and Brimstone' rules: If you fall into lava and you're immune to fire, you don't die. So, I'm going to take a guess here... if the 4e team liked 'Fire and Brimstone', I'm pretty sure they'd be including *all* the rules from it.. not just the "Fall...

Was "Bad GM Rulings?", Now Silence spell

By the standard RAW, there's no save against Silence unless it's being cast upon an unwilling creature (or its equipment) and if that save is made, it negates the spell completely.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

QFT. While there is some 'randomness' thrown in by a die roll, if I'm playing a fighter wearing chain trying to sneak, I should already realize that this is a 'bad plan' and that it's most unlikely to work, but maybe I *could* get lucky and bypass the guards. There should be no 'trepidation'...

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

"Leafildor, quickly, use your connection to the sky to call down the Storm of Vengeance!" "Um, I can't. I only get one 9th level spell per day and I already used it." "But you said you were the fallen prince of the sky!" "Well, I am! Once a day until I get to pray again." Same thing as in...

    My take.

So, how did you explain away low level critters and 0 level commoners in OD&D, AD&D 1st, AD&D 2nd, and BECMI surviving cat scratches (because a cat scratch could kill them in those edititons). How did you explain away 1st level commoners and experts surviving cat scratches in 3rd edition...

    Damn skippy! I love Earthdawn.

    My take.

To be honest, D&D hasn't had this since the very beginning. HP and the fact that a dagger strike at 1st level can kill while at 10th level it's but a mere scratch? Armor that doesn't prevent you from being hurt, but protects you from being hit? (At least 1st edition had it that some...

    My take.

If I'm not mistaken, a cat could kill a commoner in *any* edition of D&D. How the heck have commoners (or children or 'baby kobolds') managed to survive in *all* past editions?
  15. Jhulae

    My take.

If I'm not mistaken, early editions didn't even *have* rules for any kind of social encounters or even skills really. I guess there was some table for a 'background' thing like Carpenter or Farmer, but NWPs weren't introduced for a while. Yet, somehow, people managed to -*gasp*- roleplay. I...

    What's all this re-roll stuff?

Exactly. It's not anything the character is doing to 'alter reality', but it's the player who's changing the story before it's 'happened'. And, just because you use a reroll, it doesn't necessarily mean your character is going to get away in better shape. If I read the rule right, the...

its a matter of taste, but..mystara or greyhawk?

I vote Mystara, but getting your hands on all the gazetters would proabbly be hard.

    D&D and violence

I can kind of see the issue of dice as weapons. I'm not sure about the gang mentality thing though. Of course, maybe prisoners should be doing something more constructive, like dancing.
