The Chronicle of Burne, and Some Others of Lesser Importance *Updated May 17th, 2009*

The Wit and Wisdom of Burne This Mop Mop Bow fellow was the owner and proprietor of "The Kingdom of Peaceable Teas", and the kidnapping attempt had occurred upon his very doorstep. He seemed properly appalled by the situation, and offered to tend to the lady's injuries. Now, I have some small...

The Chronicle of Burne, and Some Others of Lesser Importance *Updated May 17th, 2009*

Interlude: A Cluttered, Ramshackle Tea-Shop There is barely enough room for all of them to stand in the parlor of Mop Mop Bow's Kingdom of Peaceable Teas. The shop is an example in foreignly-ordered chaos, or a study in pleasing small-space feng-shui, depending on one’s point of view. The air...

The Chronicle of Burne, and Some Others of Lesser Importance *Updated May 17th, 2009*

And thus, the Grand Re-Posting begins. And once more, explanations are likely called for.... The Chronicle of Burne is the record of D&D game that's been running for...well. Three years now, I think? Something like that. The PCs number four, although there is some change-over in the course...

The Chronicle of Burne, and Some Others of Lesser Importance *Updated May 17th, 2009*

The Tale of Burne, and Some Others of Lesser Importance: Abraxis, for whatever reason, has been encouraging me to begin a journal. "Stuff and nonsense," was my first thought. "I've no time for such fripperies!" But then I realized that I was denying posterity a chance to know the true thoughts...

The Chronicle of Burne, and Some Others of Lesser Importance *Updated May 17th, 2009*

An Introduction to CITY: --excerpted from "Talking Shi'att : Talmad Shi'atts Simple Man's History", University of Narayan Press, Monopolis Standard Year 285. Once upon a time, a mighty empire ruled a thousand cities across the world. Modern archeologists agree that's a tad hyperbolic. A more...

Cosmopolitan - did this change in PGtF and how?

What I'll probably be doing is letting *every* character choose one skill that is always a class skill for them. Humans, and maybe half-elves, will get two such skills. Everyone's going to get a couple of extra skill points, as well -- probably an additional 2/level. Rolzup

    Throwing Knives

Is a dedicated throwing knife (as opposed to the general purpose dagger) statted up as a weapon somwhere? I have vague memories of seeing them somewhere as giving a minor plus when thrown, and coresponding penalty when used in melee, but can't remember where I read this. Or what the damage...

    Making a knife fighter

Funky houserules pretty much covers it; if your race gets a bonus in a particular stat, you can buy it up to 19. And I'll take a look at that other thread, too; I'd been thnking more in terms of being Mr. Stabby-Stabby, but Throwy-Throwy works pretty well too. Harder to ge those sneak attacks...

    Making a knife fighter

Looking for a bit of help here.... Just about to kick off a new game, and I've got a character all rolled up. I'm aiming to make this guy an *effective* knife fighter, so the origingal plan wais for him to go for Invisible Blade as soon as practical. Looking at things again, however, I'm...

    High-level combats

I'm a goodly way from needing to worry about this, but I've been a'wondering: Experienced DMs! How do you keep high-level combats (say, 12th level and up) interesting, dangerous, and...um...non-tedious? The sheer amount of dice rolling involved would seem to almost inevitably bog the game...

    D20 Modern Dungeon Crawling

Seconded. I read the book a year ago, and was really torn by it. The plot and the characterization were...weak, at best. But man, Long did an amazing job on the setting. Really brought the underground to life, and on that basis alone I've been recommending the book. Rolzup

    D20 Modern Dungeon Crawling

There's a book with a similar theme by horror writer Christopher Fowler: Roofworld. Quite good, and well worth seeking out. Would make a great source of ideas for D20 Modern. Rolzup

Vancian Magic - Yes or No?

I like the Vancian magic. And in fact, my most eagerly awaited D20 purchase of 2004 is.... http://www.dyingearth.com/article5.htm Looks wonderful, really. The Spell of the Ominous Enthusiast, which conjures forth a small blue demon which can perform any single task with the greatest of...

    D20 Modern Dungeon Crawling

This is how you do a D20 Modern dungeon crawl: http://www.bullatomsci.org/issues/1997/mj97/mj97ilnitsky.html Under the Skliffasovsky clinic the Diggers encountered people dressed in monk's robes, carrying torches around a strange-looking altar made of stone. They were performing some sort of...

    Magic Item Help

I like making unique magic items. Far more interesting, in my opinion, than the standard stuff...and besides, it's fun. Being relatively new to 3.5, though, I find myself with a question or two. This particular item is actually two separate things: a sword and a ring. The ring is the...

    Anyone playing Urban Arcana?

It was done by a guy named Charlie White, as part of a exhibition of (essentialy) monsters in LA. He worked with a special effects artist to create nine different pictures; the one above is the only one that I can find on the net. It's such a wonderfully disturbing picture, isn't it? My use...

    Anyone playing Urban Arcana?

Don't know when, or if, I'll get around to using UrbArc...but I got a plan. There's a very good book by Micheal Swanwick entitled _The Iron Dragon's Daughter_, which is set largely in an industrialized version of the classic Faery. Not a particularly pleasant place to live; this isn't one of...

    Starting a Campaign

So, GMs: How do you get ready for a new campaign? How much prep work do you do, and what KIND of prep work is it? Do you plan out adventures in every detail, or do you like to improvise things as the game moves along? How much setting information, if any, do you give the players if you're...

    Best Psi Rules?

Arright, then. I'm working on getting a Gamma World game up and running, and I've run into a wee tiny bit of a stumbling block. Psi. What's GW without telepathic mutants, eh? Not Gamma World at all, really, in my opinion. But I don't much care for the psi rules in the Gamma World book. Nor...

Have You Improved Your D&D Miniatures?

I repainted the half-ord Monk figure for use by a guy in our campaign; I also modified the figure, giving it a greatsword to wield. All-in-all, pretty easy. Painted the mini with a thinned-down coat of black as a primer, and just painted overtop of that. Converting the figure wa a dream --...
