How did you get into D&D?

It took me a while. I'd seen the cartoon, and had almost joined a game being run on a local BBS, but my lack of age and polyhedral dice cost me that chance (I was about 13 or 14). I didn't think about D&D for a while until I happened upon the first trilogy of Dragonlance novels. I remember...

    Darkness has range: touch?

One of the few rules changes in 3E that I don't consider an improvement. The elimination of the Continual Darkness spell is another.

What would people like to see more of in Polyhedron?

I don't really want adventures or rules add ons for any d20 games besides d20 Modern and the mini-games, but I won't grumble about them too much so long as the mini-games show up as well. Actually the main reason I like Poly is that it often surprises me, and usually it's in a pleasant way...

    [Poll] The Dungeon/Polyhedral Issue

I was skeptical about Poly at first. Afterall, it had been that RPGA thing. I didn't want any RPGA stuff in my mailbox. But it turned out all the RPGA junk got dumped into Dragon, and Poly became this nice little bonus in the back of Dungeon. Then Poly kind of started getting cool. There...

    Has FR "jumped the shark"?

No the Realms have not yet jumped. However the great Alaundo has left us prophesy hinting at possible shark jumping to come. When the Sage of Shadowdale, the Twin Sworded Dark Elf, and the Half-Elven Swordmaiden fight a three way duel to the death, the shark will have jumped. When the...

If I bought WoTC I would......[your answer here]

First and foremost do whatever it takes to rehire Sean K. Reynolds. Give him enough authority that people in the company have to listen to him. Set up a company-run DM training course. Hire the best graduates of these classes to DM games in the WotC stores at no charge to the players. If the...

    Bard in need of songs/jokes/spells

Check out this website: http://www.chivalry.com/cantaria/ It's got loads of genuine folk songs, with audio samples available for most. A good number of them are humorous in nature, and for the ones which aren't you can always borrow the tune and rewrite the words.

    RL Mythical creatures critter book

I'd be interested, but I'd want more creamy fluff than is normal for a monster book. A simple book of stats with no retelling of the myths won't interest me.

    A gniche for gnomes?

I don't understand gnomes either. Like a lot of things I don't understand, I went through a period of trying to figure them out. That failed miserably. So I did what I normally do when I can't figure something out, I began to ignore them and hope they will go away. Since they nearly got axed...

When was the Dragon Magazine at it's best?

Compared to most in this thread, I was a late starter on Dragon, coming in somewhere in the mid 160's. But then I started gaming just in time to make the mad scramble to collect all the 1E hardbacks before they went out of print (managed to get all of them except the Manual of the Planes)...

A Different Take on Dragon #300

I don't disagree that there are more writers working in D&D/d20 and more material being written for it. I just wonder how much of that material ever gets sent in as a proposal to Dragon, and how much goes straight to someone's website. I don't have any special knowledge that makes me think...

A Different Take on Dragon #300

Glad it's not just me being nostalgic. (Not to say there isn't nostalgia happening, just that if there is, I'm not alone with it.) :) I recognize that it's a different world now. I suspect that there are a lot of articles sitting on websites which a decade ago would've been submitted to...

A Different Take on Dragon #300

Forget the controversy for a minute, because that's not what this is about. I remember Dragon #200. I remember anxiously waiting for it after seeing the preview of the cover. Elmore! Hologram! Cool! Man that was a long thirty days waiting for Dragon #200 to arrive. And when it arrived, it...

D20 Modern - What sets it apart?

Nyarlathotep, On that very same page under the heading "Advancing A Level", the third paragraph: "Skill points are spent according to the class that the multiclass character just advanced in (see Table 4-1: Skill Points Per Level). Skills purchased from Table 4-2: Skills are purchased at the...

    40 Dollar Cap?

The higher the price goes, the less likely I am to buy a product right after it comes out. The longer I wait the more likely I am to read a review giving it a bad or mediocre rating, which may be enough to make me never get the product.

D20 Modern - What sets it apart?

Yeah, what Victim said. And just to clarify, based in the d20 Modern preview pages, not every class skill you get is always a class skill, you pick a few of them to always be class skills. How many varies by class.

    The Gods are gone...now what?!?

I don't have the Manual of the Plains, so I don't know if they elaborate on this concept or not, but the Player's Handbook mentions that it is possible to have clerics who do not worship gods, but who instead follow ideals. Such clerics choose their domains based upon the ideals they follow...

D20 Modern - What sets it apart?

There's more to playing a game set in the 21st century than just taking the D&D Player's Handbook and tossing in rules for guns, cars, and computers. Modern society is more complex than the medieval fantasy society assumed by D&D, and you have to account for that. People are more educated and...

    Rolling characters...what's your favorite method?

Well no one's mentioned that insane old method from Unearthed Arcana where you rolled a different number of d6 for each stat depending on what class you wanted to play. Not that I'm recommending that thing, but it's out there. The standard 4d6 method has been my preference for most of my...

Anyone Plan On Giving d20 Modern A Go?

I'm counting the days til the release. I've had this idea for a modern fantasy setting for the last year and a half that I'm totally pumped to run. I'll probably run it online though because the D&Ders I know locally seem to have zero interest in anything not D&D. And from what I've seen of...
