[OT] Can anyone help me understand Football?

I believe that only one offensive player is allowed to be in motion before the snap. If that player sets himself, and remains set for one second, then another play can begin motion. I am a D&D nerd who played little league as a kid. I was the place kicker. That, my friends, is sad. -Ryan

Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther): First Impressions

Have they improved the interoperability with Windows shares? Specifically, does the Finder still poop out .ds_store files all over the place, and does it still die a horrible, excruciating death if a share becomes unreachable before you have a chance to unmount it? These are my only serious...

A Song of Ice and Fire Update

Hehe. I personally believe that the situation with Dany in Mereen has definite "Elayne takes a bath" potential. But I have faith that Martin won't fall into that trap. -Ryan

A Song of Ice and Fire Update

George R. R. Martin has updated his website -- the book is still not done, but he's making progress. He has been kind enough to post a sample chapter. Main link: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/ Sample Chapter: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/chapter.html -Ryan

    Networked Mac Games via TCP/IP?

Warcraft is a good suggestion. Warcraft 2 is an awesome game and can probably be found in the bargain bin for practically nothing. Direct TCP/IP play is supported (but only in the Mac version :)). Warcraft 3 is also good, though if you're not on the same LAN you'll need to play through...

Help me fix my ethernet please!

It sounds like you don't have tcp/ip bound to your ethernet adapter, which is odd. If you go to Control Panel::Network, you should see something like "TCP/IP Protocol --> 3Com Network Adapter". If you only see "TCP/IP Protocol --> PPP Adapter", you've got a problem. I don't remember the exact...

    Mac Users Identify Yourselves!

Oh, man. I just bought my powerbook and now Apple releases OS 10.3. Why don't you use a gun, Steve? :) -Ryan

    Mac Users Identify Yourselves!

No wireless yet. The airport card + base station would have strained the bugdet a little. I do have something almost as good, a nice long cat5 cable that lets me surf from the comfort of my couch, which is what I'm doing now. Wireless is definitely on the list of possible future upgrades...

    Mac Users Identify Yourselves!

Yeah, it says thanks for logging in and then dumps me back to the login page, as if I were still using the old URL, though I'm not. Oddly, once I successfully log in with IE, Safari then works. No big deal. Loving the new computer so far, in general. -Ryan

    Animation: American and Japanese

I think the implication is not that anime is less worthy, but rather that there is a growing contingent of American youth that reject any animation that they perceive as "too American" because of thier assumption that the Japanese style is superior by default. In other words, you've got to make...

    Mac Users Identify Yourselves!

I thought I'd post a follow-up, seeing as how you guys are probably just dying to know how this has worked out for me. :) We ordered a 12" Powerbook G4 last night. It came down to either the 15" or 12". They're both sweet, but ultimately the lower price, increased portability, and the "holy...

    Mac Users Identify Yourselves!

Oddly enough, our IT deptartment provides clients for Linux and Solaris, but there's no mention of Mac. I'm actually in the IT department, but I'm on the app development side so I have no sway. :) Which leads me to another question, can you use the gnu tools to develop for OS X? Is there a...

    Mac Users Identify Yourselves!

Hi folks. My PC is now experiencing it's death throes. I'm seriously considering buying a Powerbook. Any suggestions or caveats that you could give me would be appreciated. If you could recommend any must-have software or accessories, that would be great too. I guess I'm going to have to...

    Looking for a new OS...

Why, oh, why did Be Incorporated have to die?!? I ditched Windows and used BeOS exclusively for about a year before they went bankrupt. That's something I was never able to achieve with Linux. Any other Be fans hanging around here? -Ryan

    Scary Movie 3

David Zucker and Kevin Smith! Awesome! The Wayans brothers are hilarious, but the Zucker brothers basically invented the specific genre of comedy that these films fall into. I loved the first movie. The second one was a big steaming pile of poo. -Ryan
