Conspiracy X - useful for source material?

I think the earlier edition has more useful fluff than the current edition of Con X. The current corebook is very system focused.

    Getting People Together is Difficult

Different groups have had more or less of this problem. My current group has zero problem, because it's so important to everyone to get together and have fun. In the past my perspective has been that if folk are regularly making other plans then they're not respecting my time and the time of...

What do you do with difficult players?

Yeah, this is my immediate response as well. That said, I'm more likely to "deal with it." I instinctually want to fix problems. It's unfortunate.

Why there's crafting in WOW and not in D&D

MMOs use crafting systems to extend the play experience. In fact, a great many of their features incorporate ways to delay players from reaching the 'end' and thereby increasing revenue. Plenty of RPGs have systems for creating goods, from gadgets (Spirit of teh Century) to simple book items...

Vampire the Masquerade, and D&D hybrid?

Two more thoughts that don't quite mesh with what your'e going for, but might be worth considering: 1. Dark Ages Vampire is just an earlier, historical version of Masquerade with some Clan and setting changes. Exploring crypts seeking the cup of Christ and raiding temples for vampire...

First time going to GenCon- need advice/tips/etc.

Eat at least one meal at The Ram, a local restaraunt that maintains a wonderfully geeky atmosphere during the con. Make a list of people you'd really like to meet and try to make it happen. Don't burn yourself out too quickly! A little bit of pacing can really help.

Vampire the Masquerade, and D&D hybrid?

Green Ronin put out Fang and Fury for 3.0, which was essentially blending the two together. Monte Cook's World of Darkness does a fantastic job of combining the d20 system with a reimagined WoD. Review. Vampire: The Requiem is quite solid, and I've reviewed a fair bit of the line if you're...

Why the merger of two categories?

Is clicking on a download link too much of a hardship? Yikes! I'm not trying to put myself in the line of fire here - I love the ENnies and the podcasters! I just don't understand how a download link uses up more of the judge's time than a CD. Maybe other folk are different, but the first...

Why the merger of two categories?

I really enjoy listening to podcasts. I remember meeting Ryan at Gen Con last year, when I was totally pumped on Sons of Kryos (and no doubt yelled too loudly for them during the ENnies). He struck me as a real nice guy, and I immediately checked out his podcast when I got back home. While it...

    Female gamers: Weal or woe?

I can't say that I have. I've played in mostly female groups, mostly male groups, and briefly in an all male group. The only real difference was that there were more female PCs in the groups with more women. Then again, by far I tend to be playing with married folk and have for some time.

I need a ride to Gen Con!

We'll be driving past Lexington from Knoxville Thursday morning, probably around 9am. If you haven't found transportation by Gen Con time and still need help then just drop me an email and I'll see what we can do.

EN World RPG Book Club for June

I love the book club idea, Crothian! It seeks to provide interesting discussion while injecting a bit of non-d20 gaming into the forums. I've read and played Og. It's a terrific game for when you want to just be silly with a bit of structure - not unlike Toon in that respect. I think it...

    The Failure of Gleemax

It's basically just the WOTC boards now. It boggles the mind to consider how much money was wasted on this project. Even the service itself is unenforced. The reviews and blogs sections are often just ads (or even random posts), and there's no attempt to encourage user content creation or to...

Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - How to get that feel in an RPG?

I was very easily running the movie in Spirit of the Century in my head while I watched it. Declarations, Stunts, scene Aspects, the works. I highly recommend Spirit of the Century for that feel.

    How to meet gamers?

Meetup is an excellent suggestion. AccessDenied is also useful, but since the site doesn't purge its data you may go through a lot of entries before you find someone. I've had a lot of luck with the Pen and Paper player registry.
