How would you like this as a player...

I think it sounds fun, though at the very end of the campaign (last several session) I'd want to play my character rather than a pregenerated NPC.

    Was I too nice?

Welcome to ENWorld, Mamacat! Sounds like an unpleasant situation for everyone involved. I think I would have regularly talked to the GM about it and, when my character was left, mentioned my desire to be included in the current scene. There's no need to be too confrontational either "Hey DM...

Problem DM - How Should a Player Handle It?

Option 1: Play better. Take the spotlight and run with it, feed the DM interesting ideas, and try to make it a better game. This option may be ideal for groups that play together by necessity, such as close friends. Option 2: Polite discussion about how the game can be improved. This always...

    I Miss Reviews

Ya know, RPGnet has an excellent review system. What's cool, though, is that since the license is non-exclusive you could use it as a temporary hosting place for your reviews and then just submit them to ENworld 2 when it goes live. With the GamingIndex setup it's often the case that most of...

    I Miss Reviews

Yep, I would have been adding some here but just can't. :(

Future of gaming companies with the impending recession ?

This is a hobby industry. By that, I mean the producers largely do it as a hobby. While there are many people that make a living from it, I think most folk still maintain their day job. Considering that, I don't foresee a recession (if such a thing occurs) impacting the hobby in any great...

    Simple yet vital question

If they're peasants and there are powerful knights and sorcerers then yeah, I don't see why they would even try. Play up the badassery of your PCs a bit and try to downplay level and such. If they believe they are weak then they may end up doing things in response to that belief, such as...

    Torturing a PC (a bit)

I'd find a long term fumble penalty to be less than fun, were I playing the fighter. Why not just have a cool scene where he shows his grit in the face of torture? Instead of permanently cutting parts off you could go for beatings and such.

Books that proved worth the money spent

Primetime Adventures. It's the perfect 'go to' game for me when I just want to run a one shot or random folk are over and we want to roleplay.

What are the "Generations" of RPGs?

Most terms in this hobby, especially anything that categorizes RPGs, are just random designators someone thought was a good idea. There's no generally accepted scheme of 'generations' or anything and it's probably not worth the effort to try and force games into that designation.

Tips for DMing a solo game

As has been mentioned, the #1 for me is that you'll burn through material a lot more quickly. There's no intraparty communication going on and you won't have the opportunity to be thinking up something for one player while dealing with another. If you're not good at on the spot content then...

    Anima RPG cancelled?

No news at the Anima forums , except month+ old speculation that it *may* be released in 2008.

    What are we?

I like a broad variety of games, but I come to EN World for D&D/d20 chatter. No offense, but most of the regulars here don't post on a variety of other games. Which is cool, you can't beat EN World for d20 goodness.

    Dragon 361 Editorial

I don't see how advertising 4E will be of use to me in 6 months. I've still got the long line of Dragons advertising 3E, and amazingly I don't consult them. At least with a new Class, PrC, or other 3.5 content it's something to play with and incorporate into my current games. For me that was...

So why don't reviews work? (as a marketing tool)

They don't now. I think way, way back they had 'staff' and such that may have, but that was when Sandy was running the site.

So why don't reviews work? (as a marketing tool)

I've yet to have anyone be rude to me from a review inquiry, and I've solicited just about everyone at some point. Some people never return my emails, but I assume the person in question is just too busy for a "No thanks." I can certainly appreciate that, returning emails is time consuming...

So why don't reviews work? (as a marketing tool)

Wizards actually uses a third party PR company to screen potential reviewers, I suspect based on the ratings they have given products.

My, how the adventures have changed...

I like D&D but I'm not hardcore about it. For me, someone who likes a variety of RPGs, all four examples just provided the exact same play experience. The only real difference was how combat was resolved and various mechanics changes. I guess that, no matter the edition, it's still D&D to me.

So why don't reviews work? (as a marketing tool)

It may be worth considering that GamingReport isn't the wonderful site it once was. I get about 10% or less of the impressions there that I do at RPG.net.

So why don't reviews work? (as a marketing tool)

I think a lot of folk also don't realize that unsold product sitting around in a warehouse or wherever can eat money through taxes, too. Thanks for weighing in, Chris! I find your feedback to be particularly valuable. Would you mind taking a moment to say what your company values most in...
