D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

Nope. See, the elves and dwarves that appear everywhere are really really really obviously based on Tolkien's specific version of the creatures from myth. Elves and dwarves which are unlike Tolkien's are usually deliberate attempts to go back to the myths and take them in another direction, but...

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

Hobbits appear in two novels. Yes, those two novels are immensely popular, but hobbits don't have anything like the traction of elves or dwarves, or we'd see them in someone else's work! I can't think of a "halfling" race in even crappy knockoff fantasy that doesn't alter the hobbit mold at...

New Dragon Article: Ecology of the Fire Archon

Great colour! I really like that one, too. :)

I've reversed my stance on dragonborn and tieflings

Correct! The less often we assume that northern and western European culture is "the default", the better. I'd rather have penanggalan in my D&D games than knockers (minds out of the gutter, Commonwealth people), any day.

I've reversed my stance on dragonborn and tieflings

Definitely much better than most of his older, "cartoony" (not in the sense of being exaggerated, but in the sense of being too clean and flat-coloured) work. I love to see an artist improving, and I love that picture!

D&D 4E What changes aren't being made in 4E that you think should be

Dungeons & Dragons hasn't worked like that for over thirty years. Versions of the game with more classes have always been more popular, so there's absolutely no reason Wizards of the Coast should ignore good business sense and cut the game down to a half-handful. I like True20 very much, but it...

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

Because it fits better into what Dungeons & Dragons is now. I also firmly believe that hobbits never worked in D&D right from the start, which is why we've spent thirty-four years getting the Hell away from them - and that includes twenty-five years under TSR, before you start blaming Wizards of...

I hope the Warlord class is good! :)

    Way to threadcrap, champ.

I've reversed my stance on dragonborn and tieflings

Hey, my wife bought me Requiem for Rome for Christmas. :)

I've reversed my stance on dragonborn and tieflings

While no company comes close to Wizards of the Coast's market share, White Wolf is one of the biggest companies around, and their World of Darkness games including the new version of Vampire are still huge when compared to any game that isn't Dungeons & Dragons.

    Stupid Questions

Yeah! Dumb questions usually aren't - they show a desire to be informed. :)

    Stupid Questions

    1. Yes, the six classic attributes are still used. One change is that the core races apparently offer only bonuses to ability scores, not penalties - elves have +2 to Dexterity and +2 to Wisdom, with no penalty to Constitution. 2. Yes. The core rules will support 30 levels - 1-10 is called the...

Locations Mentioned in Races & Classes

Sounds a bit like the Great Wheel plane of Bytopia, doesn't it? :) I'm comfortable with a mountain so tall it extends beyond the atmosphere. Although it's not true, it was once thought that the peak of Olympus Mons was beyond the atmosphere of Mars.

HBO's ROME Series: D&D campaign possible?

I adore Rome, but you only say this because you haven't seen The Wire. ;) I agree with those who have said that you can't really do a great Roman campaign unless your players have a sense of the society, religion, and attitude of Roman people. Fortunately, it's not hard to get that across to them.

    Vikings weren't nomadic. ;)

    D&D 4E Is there a spontaneous class in 4e?

Because all classes have at-will, per-encounter, and per-day abilities, the division between prepared and spontaneous casters is meaningless. The sorcerer will return, probably in the arcane power source supplement at the end of the year - Races & Classes had this to say about how they will...

Chainmail Bikinis & other Cheesecake art in the 4th Edition Core Books.

Okay, we just can't have a useful conversation, if you genuinely think that Amazon looks "tanned" or "almost bronze-skinned". She's only a shade or two less pale than my Finnish friend. This is tanned, or bronze-skinned: So, you know. Your model might have lighter skin, and you might have...

Stupid feat naming: Does it really matter that much?

I agree with your second point. The name of the game mechanic does not necessarily translate to the term the character actually uses to refer to her ability. Damn it. Now I need to play a wizard or cleric who renames everything according to her own tastes or the attributes of her deity.

    What are your Halflings like?

Personally, I have never used them in any setting of my own creation. Fourth Edition halflings seem a lot more interesting, but prior to that the only place I can tolerate them is in Eberron.

D&D 4E What happens to Eberron in 4E? Is it a dead world?

Conversion documents no, though they have said that Dragons of Eberron and City of Stormreach will be re-statted for Fourth Edition in D&D Insider (perhaps as a free adjunct to the pay service? I can't recall). I suspect, however, that at least the warforged, changeling, and shifter will make...
