    Preview: Highwayman

This is a good observation. Truthfully, I wanted this class to cover everything from Robin Hood to the Three Musketeers to the Count of Monte Cristo, but Swashbuckler seemed a bit risky to include in anything using the GSL. Originally, they did. But I didn't want them getting too cocky, so I...

Swordmages and half-orcs hit the streets!

First of all... thank you for sharing. Second of all... how'd you get so lucky??? I can't seem to be able to download that particular event? Are you at Origins, perhaps? Or are you just exceptionally awesome? EDIT: NM. I just noticed the convention release date was different from the...

    No Random treasure !?!?...

Seriously, this is silly. Clearly we simply prefer different styles of play. I prefer a campaign where treasure is integrated into the plot and story of the characters and makes sense within the larger scope of the adventure. One where every treasure is meaningful and feels important. I...

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try and respond to them as best I can. This is a pretty decent observation. I don't necessarily share that assessment, but I can see where you would get it from. To me, it would be a defender trait if it were used to enhance "stickiness": that is to keep an enemy...

    No Random treasure !?!?...

Umm.... Except that this... ...is pretty much what they are suggesting. Nowhere does it say that you should just give them whats on the list. It says ask for a list of character goals. Keep it in mind. It will help you as you craft an adventure. The fact that the list idea is preceded...

    4th Edition Bard

Really well done. This is a very well put together class, from concept to execution.

Highwayman Powers Your powers are heroic exploits drawn not only from your expertise with a blade, but also from your practical knowledge of combat situations and your ability to manipulate your enemies. Some powers are more effective when used to lockdown a single target, while others may...

    Preview: Highwayman

A quick and dirty preview of a class I have been working on. There are still heaps of balancing issues at higher levels, but its been a blast to playtest thus far and the lowlevels seem to be balanced pretty well (at least against the Wizard). It is designed as something of a Martial...

    No Random treasure !?!?...

While not a "random treasure table", I plan on putting together a book (called "The Trophy Hunter's Guidebook") which will include suggested treasure parcels for every monster in the MM, as well as some new feats and character building options for Dungeoneering focused players.

GSL, Published Worlds and your game

As someone working towards publishing a campaign setting of my own (Aerith: Dark Renaissance- http://tao-simulations.com/?p=3), I can say that I fully expect to release updates shortly after new classes, races, etc. are added to the SRD to keep my setting as accessible as possible without...

[4e Setting] No Age for Heroes

I really like the setting, possibly because it reminds me (at least to some degree) of my own. Very well done guys. If you're ever looking to get something published and distributed, I'd be happy to work with you all.

    "Fun"

I agree with the general sentiment here, but I think there's something that should be remembered in the defense of that statement: When was the last time you played with a new DM? For a new DM, it can often be a daunting task to keep the game moving. Oftentimes, they would get stuck in the...

    Are the WOTC forums borked?

As a WizO over there I can say that it isn't something we're enjoying either. I believe that it has to do with changing some things in preparation for D&D Insider, but even we haven't gotten an official answer. We're just supposed to report bugs as we find them. Sorry I can't give you a...

    4e D&D GSL Live

I just added something to the above quote for clarity, but I'll clarify here as well. If you reference something from the SRD, you get ALL of it, with all baggage attached. If you don't reference, or specifically say you don't want it, then you don't get any of it. As for the ramifications of...

    4e D&D GSL Live

This is incorrect. You can exclude something, but you cannot selectively exclude certain aspects of something. For example... you can say "there are no clerics" but you cannot say "clerics cannot turn undead". One is exclusion (allowed) the other is redefinition (not allowed). You could...

    4e D&D GSL Live

This is a pretty conclusive list, but the subsequent discussion had quite a bit of misinformation spattered in. I'll respond to the best of my understanding. This will fall under the (to be released) fan site policy Yes. If those terms are later added to the GSL, there would be a conflict and...

    4e D&D GSL Live

It is my understanding that you could, in fact, include it regardless, due to the fact that the applied mechanical results of racial traits for the individual races on pages 276-279 are permissible according to the SRD (pg 3). In other words, you could not write "Orcs have the following...

    Why shuriken?

He was a multiclass fighter... just a two level dip for the feats.

GSL: Am I wrong to be concerned?

My guess is that it would be considered Applied Mechanical Result and allowed. My guess is no, since you would be explicitly showing how to reverse engineer it to get the original stats. My guess, again, is no for the same reason as above.

    Why shuriken?

I am actually designing a Martial Controller (yes, I know... another one) known as the Highwayman that makes extensive use of tricks like this. I'm all the way up to lvl 15 or so on the power list, but I've still got a looooong ways to go. Playtests have been really fun so far though.
